Mom's Groups in Ravenswood/Andersonville/Uptown

I am a single mom with a bi-racial 5 month old son. I'm laid back and tend to take a natural, attachement appproach to parenting, but I'm not over-board about it. I would love to meet other moms for support, learning, and socialization (for me and my son) Any suggestions for groups that already exist? Or are there other mothers in my area looking for the same?

What can I do next?

Hi N., I too am a single mom of a (2yr old) biracial child (daughter). I don't really belong to any groups, and I don't live near you (Hyde Park) but if you want to talk or get together we'd be happy to meet you and your son. It's tough at first. Hang in there. There are lots of happy times ahead!!

Try the North Side Parents' Network (www.npn.org). They have groups organized by zip code and there's a fairly big group in 60640 (Andersonville, where we live). They also have groups organized by interests and I think have a single parents group as well.

Hi! The Northside Parents Network is a great organization. THey run new parent programs such as support groups and playgroups. They also are a great resource for child care. They are a volunteer organization and therr's a small membership fee to join. I've recently moved out of the city, so I'm no longer a member. But I felt that their mission and resources were fantastic for parents raising children in Chicago.

ALSO, I love Town and Country Pediatrics. There are loads of docs and nurse practitioners there. I've never been disatified with anyone there. Our ped. is Irene Freeman--she's great. Wonderful attitide and very professional--without ever being condescending or unapproachable. And you'll be hard pressed to find any doctors in the city that don't support breastfeeding. I'm pretty sure that's a thing of the past!!

Good luck!
