I am looking for a martial arts program for my 3 year old son. He is EXTREMELY high energy and I am hoping to find a program that will help him focus his energy for good :-) I am not interested in finding an organization that is a "belt shop" as I have read about.

Thanks for the info moms!

I'm not familiar with any of the martial arts up North but you should also consider gymnastics! This particular one trains for the Olympics(older children) but they have 3 and 4 year old classes.

I feel i must defend USA Martial Arts at Spring Creek/Coit! We love it there! We been there for 6-7 months now. My son has come such a long way since joining -- his attention span, patience, wiggle-control have all improved tremendously -- and he loves going because they always have fun there!

The instructors are top-notch and wonderful with small children. That is a must for me!
I've been to other places/sports activities before that have been run by non-enthusiastic or teen instructors that are just there to earn a part-time paycheck -- those instructors didn't care about the kids and it showed.
At USA Martial Arts, the instructors really care and work with the kids. And are willing to work with your child one-on-one with free/private extra lessons if needed. They are passionate about martial arts and how martial arts can help children in all areas of their life.

And they just started offering a Cubs class for 3 yr olds. You could at least try it out for a free class to get info to see what you thought.
If you have specific questions, you can PM me. Or just call USA Martial Arts and ask to speak to Mr. Castilla or Ms. Shiva -- after Noon-before 3 pm is better chance to talk to them -- as classes start up at 3 pm and go on into the evening.

Avoid USA Martial Arts (Coit & Spring Creek, with other locations). We did a 6 mo intro deal & it was a total ripoff bait & switch. Horrible experience & they wouldn't even respond to me. They're also a belt factory.

Also avoid Vision Martial Arts on Spring Creek and Alma. It is also a rip-off.

We have been very pleased with GT Sport Tae Kwon Do in Plano and we have tried intro classes at several area schools. The program is fun, yet regimented. It is serious business, as many of the students are on national competition teams...Age three is a great age to start! You will be very pleased with the outcome if you choose the right program! www.gtsportusa.com
