Hi! We are visiting my family in the Los Angeles area (specifically, the City of Commerce/Montebello area). I grew up here but all I remember doing when I was growing up is going to the park. There are several parks and a great swimming pool in the city. I'm wondering whether my son is old enough to take to Disneyland - he is 19 months old. Also thinking of going to the water park at Knott's Berry Farm. Any suggestions welcomed! Thanks!!
how old is your son? there is also lego land which is lots of fun!
The beach, the zoo, la brea tar pits, museum of science and industry, sea world, long beach aquarium, balboa island
I second Legoland. It's less crowded, the pace is slower and there is more for little ones to do and see. When my kids were little, we also preferred Knotts. They have a whole area, Camp Snoopy, that is geared for younger kids. If YOU want to go to Disneyland, you'll find plenty of other parents pushing a stroller.
If you go to the beach, I like Cabrillo for the younger kids. Go early, park in the lot shared with the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium and bring a picnic lunch. The beach is wide, there are bathrooms and the aquarium is free. It's also fun to go to Santa Monica, take a walk along the beach and have lunch someplace along 3rd St Promenade. It's pedestrian only with plenty of parking in the many garages along 2nd and 4th Streets. I also like Doheny Beach/Dana Point Harbor in Orange County. It's clean, there are bathrooms and picnic tables and you can drive to DP Harbor to eat. I used to take my kids for a walk along Dana Point Harbor to see the boats.
I wouldn't bother with Disneyland at that age, honestly. It's expensive, crowded, has long lines, is tiring, and he won't remember it or be able to enjoy everything. He's still napping & in diapers & in a stroller, also.
I would probably just go to the beach. It's fun, free & your son will absolutely love it. You could also do the Los Angeles Zoo.
