A friend of mine was recently feeling overwhelmed with her husband and kids and I told her that we should start a mom's group. I don't drink and would like to go somewhere and meet with other moms who just want to get away for a couple of hours where it doesn't involve drinking. If anyone has any information on a group that we could join in on or would like to help get a group started, please let me know. Thank you all so much!
I have had 5 responses to this request and I didn't think I would have any! I will definitely get ahold of everyone who responded so we can get the show on the road and meet up! I am really excited about this and can't wait to tell my friend that there are others just like us out there who need a break and some fellowship with other moms!

I am also a non-drinking mother who would like to get out of the house from time to time. I have no idea where to go or what to do & would be very interested in getting involved with a local mom's group. However, I do have to say that although I am 38 years old my child is only 22 months old. So, if you are cool with revisiting your toddler parenting years then please let me know. I am a new mom to triplets. My husband Floyd and I are both 36 years old. I grew up and still live on the east side of Des Moines and would love to get together with other moms who don't want to just go drinking. I'm not a drinker myself and have too much to take care of my little ones to go be a partier again. Count me in.
M. - Check out meetup.com for the Des Moines area. I live in Des Moines and am involved in a couple of meetup groups here in Des Moines. One is a mom's group (there are at least 5 or 6 different ones in the area) and one is for one of my hobbies. There are 2 "hip mama's" groups in DSM, 2-4 different stay at home mom groups, and a couple others that I am not sure what they are called. I am in one of the hip mamas groups, and although some of the activities on the bullitin board involve going out, we also have many others - monthly coffee meetups, music exchange meetups, "Starbucks & Strollers" at Jordan Creek, book club nights, recipe swaps, cookie exchanges, etc...you name it. Last year some of us went to see Cirque d'Soliel together. There are many different activities always going on, and you can rsvp to as many or as few as you want. Every group is different, but meetup.com is definitely the way to go :)
