Hi! My family and I are moving from Chicago to Anderson Township next month and we're interested in any advice you might have! We're looking for a pediatrician, dentists (pediatric and adult), an eye doctor, a chiropractor, a cleaning service, etc. as well as your favorite restaurants, parks, preschools, kid-friendly activities and anything else you can think of to help ease our transition. We have a 2 1/2 year old son and a 4 week old daughter. Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Hello and welcome to Cincy!!! I highly recommend Anderson Hills Pediatrics. They have an office in Andeson and one in Amelia. They are wonderful!! My daughters primary is Dr. William Brodwrick, but she has been by several others as well. You might actually be able to call them and set up a time to sort of interview them. Here is the main number ###-###-####. Hope this helps you out!!

I fully agree with all the suggestions for Group Health Associates. As a young patient I have seen Dr. Melodie Blacklidge (in Clifton) and Dr. Rosy Thind (when she was in Clifton). (With Dr. Thind she helped me with a very sensitive situation - imagine being 17 and finding 3 lumps in your breasts, even though I was being my stubborn self she tried to reassure me.) I currently take my son to Dr. Samina Ahmed (in Springdale) and she is wonderful.

As far as dentists are concerned, I'd recommend Dr Michael Gordon. I know he's probably out of your way, but he works with many difficult patients and encourages disabled patients; my sister and I were both terrified of the dentist (we were seeing Dr. Dave Sullivan - DO NOT GO TO HIM - he belittles parents and does not take as good of care with "problem patients" as he does with others - my sister almost had some permanent problems had we not switched away from him.) until we went to his office.

GL!

Hi E.,

I don't live in Anderson, but my dentist is there. His name is Peter Schwenkmeyer, and I have been going to him for 17 years. I think he's wonderful.

I also take my eldest, who's 4, over to the YMCA on Clough Pike for t-ball and basketball. Their leagues start at age 3, focus on teamwork and sportsmanship, and are a lot of fun.

Hope your move goes smoothly!

Ditto on Anderson Hills - Dr. Hackenberg-Bauer is our pediatrician as well - we love her and all the other doctors there have always been great. Depending on what type of preschools you are looking for my daughter just finished a year at Mt. Washington Presbyterian Preschool (which is just outside of Anderson Township). Our children go to Dr. Ron Poulos - his web address is www.drronskidsteeth.com. They are a great Pediatric dentistry practice just next door to Anderson Hills Pediatrics. Everyone I know that doesn't go to Anderson Hills is at Eastern Hills Pediatrics which is in the same building as Dr. Ron. I love my OB, but he's not in Anderson - but if you're willing to drive 20 minutes his name is Dr. Kurt Froehlich - he's amazing!!! Anderson Township is an amazing community that has a lot to offer - with tons of parks and playgrounds ( I recommend Beech Acres with the little ones). Congrats on the move.

Hi E. -
We also take our 10 month old son to Group Health Associates in Anderson. We see Dr. Jon Mumma. He has been really great - very laid back, spends lots of time at every visit with us - he and his wife have 4 children - very supportive of breastfeeding, if that's important to you. There's always a nurse to talk to if you have questions & they can get you an appointment same day if you need it. I have several friends that also go to other doctors in that practice - all are very happy with their choice.

We've lived in Anderson for a year and 1/2, (but I've lived in Cincinnati for most of my adult life) and I'm still trying to find a dentist that I like with our insurance on this side of town...I know there is a new pediatric dentist office being built on Nagel Road - but I don't know the name of the dentist. Sorry, not much help...

Most of the restaurants on this side of town are chains, but there are a few that aren't. We really like El Coyote - which is tex-mex - on State Rd. There are lots of great restarants on the east side of town (within 10 or 15 minutes of Anderson depending on where you live), so if you're interested in more details, send me a message back with which kind of restaurants you like and I can give you some ideas.

There's a really nice YMCA on Clough Pike. Mercy Hospital also has the HealthPlex - which is where we belong - it has nice gym facilities, two indoor pools, tennis courts and babysitting. My ob/gyn is also in that building - Seven Hills OB/GYN. They have ob's and nurse practitioners on staff. It's a big practice, but I've been happy with it. I see Dr. Xavier Ortiz.

If you are interested, please send me a message back and let me know what part of Anderson you are moving to (it's a pretty big community) and I can give you some more suggestions. Or, if you have any other questions, please let me know and I'd be happy to answer them if I can!

Welcome to Ohio!
A.

I hope these suggestions help you. We use a pediatric dentist right there on Beechmont Ave name Dr John Gennatonio. He is awesome. He was referred to us by friends and we have now been a patient for 2 years. Our doctors are off of 5 mile Rd. named Group Health Associates. Their # is ###-###-####. We see Dr Hickey and Dr Mumma for my son. They are both awesome. We really like it there. We have a family friend who is a chiropractor named Jack Hendricks and he is right off of Beechmont on Nordica Lane. His phone # is ###-###-####. I sent my son to preschool in Eastgate at a place called Little Red Schoolhouse. He has been there since right before Thanksgiving and we love it. He is doing so well and learning so much there. There is also a Little Red in Anderson Township also. I could go on and on but I hope that helps for now. Respond back to me if you want any more info on any of these things I've told you or if you have any other questions about the area. I also work for US Bank so if you need a bank I can help with that too!! lol Take care.

Dear E.,
Good luck on the move and welcome to Cincy!!!
My family and I just moved here about two years ago and went through the same transition you're about to go through. I have two small children and one on the way and we were referred to Dr. Jonathan Mumma. We absolutely LOVE him!!! He's been great with both my son and daughter (son has seen him since birth.) He is very thorough, the wait is NEVER long and is willing to answer any questions you may have. He's been so great for us. As far as dentist, I use Dr. Black on State Rd...really close to Dr. Mumma at the GHA office in Anderson. Dr. Black has been great for me as well as for my 3.5 year old daughter. The hygenists there are great and it's really kid friendly.
There's also a great Hamilton County park close by (I think it's Woodland Mound) and has a great little water park for the kiddos. Mine LOVE it! It's off of Beechmont...you'll get to know the road when you get here...it's got a ton of stores and restaurants on it. Another great resource is www.cincinnatiusa.com It has listing of all sorts of events. It's been my saving grace on finding things to do here as a newcomer.
Hope this helps and feel free to ask for more help...hope you find it a welcoming city.

Welcome to Cinci. While I don't live in Anderson, our pediatrician does practice over there on certain days of the week and I absolutely lover her. After going through several pediatricians who were okay but not amazing, we found our current doctor who we couldn't be happier with. She truly wants to know your questions and takes time to answer them thoroughly. Plus, my daughter really responds well to her. I also know several other people who see her and they can't say enough about her either. Her name is Dr. Gurpreet "Rosy" Thind and she practices with Group Health Associates at the Anderson Medical Center, which is at 7810 Five Mile Road. The great thing about Group Health Associates is they are always accepting new patients. The web address if you want to look them up is: cgha.com.

Good luck with your move.

Dr. Mumma with Group Health Associates is SOOOOO wonderful, and fairly young so he will not be retiring anytime soon. He is extremely thorough and funny! I was referred to him by a woman that works in the industry. When I was looking for a physician, Dr. Mumma referred me to Dr. Neirouz and she is wonderful too. She used to be the Director at University Hospital. They are both right behind the Anderson Township Shopping Center. For dentistry we go to Rodgers Family which is on Beechmont and I love it there too. I haven't had to take my daughter yet because she is only 8 months old, but I'm sure they would be great. One of the doctors has a baby himself and the sisters have older children. There aren't a lot of great restaurants in Anderson (in my opinion). We usually go to the Hyde Park area to eat. There are the typical Outback, Applebees, Friday's, etc. Hamilton County has great parks and lots of fun stuff going on in the summer. You can probably google to see which parks would be closest to you. There are also some dog parks in the area if you have dogs. Good luck with your move to our not so windy city!

Congrats on your move to Anderson Twp! I think you will love it. I moved here for my career, got married and have been here 9 years now. Raising two kids as a SAHM (5 and 2). Lots to do in Anderson Twp and the beauty of it is, is that Anderson is about 15-20 minutes from just about anywhere that you would want to go. I have listed some websites below, along with some info to help get you started in "starting anew". Where are you moving to in Anderson? Please feel free to email me and I would be happy to give you any further information that will help your family to transition! Best wishes. B.. ____@____.com or ____@____.com the parks and recreation areas in Anderson can be read about at the Anderson Twp Park District website...lots of fun parks, nature reserves, kids water park and so on:

Dr. Barbara Cain,DDS. In my opinion, this is the best Dentist ever! I started going to her about 4 years ago, she is big on NO PAIN, she interacts with you, she is kind, so friendly and sweet, and all about letting you participate in whatever way you want. EXCELLENT with my five year old. He has Never cried once when going to her, in fact, he LOVES going to have his teeth cleaned. Taking my two year old next month for the first time. Small practice, only Dr. Cain, hygenist and assistant. You can page her anytime day or night. Dr. Cain is SUPERB!

Seven Hills Women's Center is an excellent women's health practice (OB/GYN). They have about 5 Dr's and 5 Midwives in the Anderson location. I started seeing the midwives with my second pregnancy and have never gone back to the regular doc. These midwives are young, nice, educated, accomodating, and can do most everything the Doctor can do. Very comfortable.

Anderson Hills Pediatrics is where I have taken both my children since birth. They are quite busy and I don't think they are "accepting" new patients right now, but I bet a phone call might change that. We use all the Doctors in the practice, but primarily Dr. Petra Hackenburg-Bauer.

Hi. I would love to give you a referral on a pediatric office. I have taken my three children to Anderson Hills Pediatrics since they were newborns. My oldest is almost 9 now. They have always been great. The nurses are very good when you call and if your child is sick they will get you in right away. If you call in the morning they will get you in that day. During the 'flu season' they will even extend sick appointments into the late evening (we once had an appointment at 8:30pm).

Sadly, my pediatrician just informed us that due to a long commute (she has lived in West Chester for several years now), she is moving to a different practice, but I have seen many of the doctors there over the years and have always been happy.
