I live in Fairfield on the Bridgeport line. I have a little girl who turned three in August.
I belong to the Mom's Club of Fairfield (North Chapter). They have pretty good playgroups, but I have heard that the Welcome Club of Easton Fairfield has even better playgroups (you don't have to be new to the area to join.) I plan to join sometime in the near future.
I also belong to Mommydates, an online group in the area http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mommydates/
I think that they have quite a few members with children your son's age.

try the Welcome Club of Fairfield/Easton. They offer playgroups and lots of other kids events. Look for their website for more info.

Check out the chapter of the MOMS Club in your area. There are groups in both Fairfield and Bridgeport, so you could get information for the one in your town from http://www.momsclub.org/welcome.html
I'm part of the Shelton/Monroe group and love it- there are playroups, other organized playdates (like park days, bike/trike days, sidewalk chalk days, story times, pumpkin picking, etc), holiday parties, moms-night-out...

*Mondays LUNA moms at the Trumbull Library(Fairchild branch) You can look at the their site on Meetups.com under The Trumbull/Fairfield Area Stroller Strides Meetup Group
*Wed & Fri at 6-6 Magnet school in bpt from 9:30-11am
www.ces.k12.ct.us is the website and click on 6-6 tab then family resource center
