My daughter used to go to Providence Pediatrics and the staff was terrible. Dr. Parikh was knowledgeable, but wasn't worth dealing with the staff's nasty attitude.

A word to the wise...when it comes to vaccines, make sure you have enough well baby insurance or you will end up paying the difference and if you choose PP, they won't be very nice about it either.

Dr. David Schindler

He is not taking new, unsolicited patients, but if you were referred he'll take you. He is a family doctor, not just pediatrics. Until about 6 years ago, he even delivered babies too!

It is a private practice - he is the only doctor. The atmosphere is very friendly and family-like. I found out about him through the midwives, who all recommended him and think he's the best.

He takes a more holistic approach to healthcare and will work with you on what you want for vaccinations. He will talk about the pros and cons of the vaccines and then you have to decide.

His office is located on the west side of Novi Road, just south of 96.

Good luck!

A friend of mine just recommended Providence Park Pediatrics to me because I wanted to switch from Dr. Einhorn w/Novi Docs. She says they are wonderful, and have a well area and a sick waiting area to keep spreading sick germs to a minimum. I like the fact that there are a lot of doctors to choose from so you get the benefit of a team instead of ONE doctor. They do try to keep you with your preferred doctor unless you want to be moved around.

My kids have not been in yet but one will be seeing Dr. Newcombe in two weeks for a well check up.

Other posters have suggested Providence Park Peds, and we can't say enough good things about Dr Newcombe there-she's simply fabulous. Our son has been a patient of this practice since birth 20mo ago, after it was recommended to us by my OBGYN who takes her own children there. Dr Newcombe never makes us feel rushed, answers all of our questions, explains things thoroughly, and takes an active interest in getting to know our child. Also, I like that there are several doctors w/in this practice (so u can always switch Drs if one doesn't gel w/u), separate sick/well entrances, late nights and Sat hours, and the staff (especially nurses) have always been courteous. Our son has only been sick for an ear infection that just wouldn't go away at 16mo, but we were very hppy with his care; we were able to schedule last-minute same day appts with very little effort and contacted the on-call Dr after hours twice (I was a spastic mom then bc he'd never been sick).
I don't know where you're delivering, but if it's at Providence Park, they visit your child in the hospital before discharge and also schedule an in-office visit for 2-3 days after birth.
My only advice is to schedule the frequent well-baby checkups while you're in the office bc this office gets busy when trying to make appts via phone.
Good luck in your choice!

We LOVE Dr. Susan Laurent at 10 Mile and Novi Road. We've been with her for almost three years and she's wonderful. It's a single-doctor practice with no double-booking. She's extremely accommodating with appointment times, we never wait more than a few minutes, and never feel like we're being rushed out. She also takes my "mom's intuition" seriously. Even if she thinks it's not necessary, she'll send my kids for further tests if it's what will make ME more comfortable. I like that because I never worry that she hasn't listened to my concerns and I never feel dismissed. I also really like the fact that if I need to speak with her, she either takes the call right away or calls me back promptly. The office staff has been the same since we started there -- they know us by name and always make us feel like family. Here's her info if you want to make an appointment and interview her before your baby is born (that's what we did):

I know she visits Beaumont Royal Oak and Providence Park. Not sure where else. Good luck!
