Different things my daughters school has done--
*Pizza or ice cream parties
*Mystery reader - over the intercom an unidentified reader reads a passage from a book or poem and they have to guess who is reading (football players, teachers, mayor, business owner, etc.)
*All night reading party. Students, with parent chaperones and teachers spent the night in the gym. Staying up all night (almost) We brought books, magazines, sleeping bags, pillows. Break into are groups and have silent reading time for an hour at a time. The hours were seperated with breaks that were various activities. Guest readers, Guest story tellers, Craft making -bookmarks and book covers,. Snack time, and movie time. I think it was 7pm to 7am. It was great fun.
*Whip cream pie in teacher/principal face.
*Reading points accumulated for different prizes - pencils, books, certificate to local restaurants/businesses, etc. (little to big prizes)
*teachers dress up as popular book characters

We've done 2 fun things - one, where a student got to "Shave Dave" and shave a teacher's head - a second where various staff members offered to be punked for a day. Students had 5 or 10 minutes to use as much hair spray, gel, other hair products, colored hair spray, etc. to transform their teachers into punks. TEachers then wore their hair that way for teh remainder of the day.
Both items were done as school assemblies in front of the school. Students ESPECIALLY loved that they got to be the ones who actually did the shaving or punking.

Color his hair sounds "cool". Wearing a dress....I think kids are confused enough!

2 Ideas ~

Our school did a Walk the Plank Pirate themed read a thon where the principal had to walk fully clothed into our school pool...we no longer can afford the pool.

My aunt, though, taught for numerous years, and their school did a Fear Factor themed reading program. The principal and assorted popular staff had to do things like eat chocolate covered grasshoppers (ordered off the internet) and kind of gross things, for so many books read. The also did some cool displays around the school from a local college's science department of bugs and creepy crawlies to add to the fun (with informational facts and a talk by the professor of entomology (spelling??). I think one teacher let some hissing cockroaches crawl on her and stuff. The kids thought it was the coolest!

If you aren't up for that we have also turned staff and the principal into a walking "Sundae." Kids brough in ice cream toppings and bedecked the staff with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, etc.

We've done different things were the goal was to throw a pie in the principals face. It always goes over big with the kids and he is always a good sport about it.

When I was in elementary school, the Principal spent the day on the roof. It was great fun for us! =)
