Hi Ladies,
My husband and I are thinking about having a second child and I need to find a new OB GYN. My first pregnancy was far from normal and I didn't like the way my current OB GYN handled things. She tended to be pessimistic and I prefer a more optimistic doctor. She's on the young side and her inexperience became apparent as soon as the pregnancy got challenging. So, I'm looking for a tested OB GYN that preferably has an office in the Alpharetta/Roswell area. I'm looking for someone with a good bit of experience who has a good bedside manner and listens well. Thanks much.

What can I do next?

Hi L.. I have a 15 month old and another on the way due in a few months. I go to Georgia OB GYN. They have 3 offices, 1 near Northside Hospital, 1 in Alpharetta on Morris Ave. and 1 in Cumming at Northside Forsyth. There are 5 doctors and 1 midwife in the practice and they are all great. There are 3 male doctors, Allen, Calhoun and Ayers and 2 female doctors, Leader and Zimmerman. The midwife, Renee, is also a woman. Unfortunately, you can't really just pick one doctor. They'll have you see all of the doctors because who delivers you depends on who is on duty. Truthfully, I would feel comfortable with any one of them delivering my second child and should we have any complications, I'd feel comfortable with any of them handling that too. All the doctors rotate offices so you can see all the doctors at the Alpharetta office. The midwife only works out of the Northside office though. Here are the numbers for the 3 offices: Northside - ###-###-####, Alpharetta - ###-###-####, Cumming - ###-###-####. Good luck!

This has been the practice I have seen for the last 11 years -- ever since I moved to Atlanta. They have 3 offices and one of them might be close enough to you. I have a 18 month old son and loved seeing them during every minute of my pregnancy. I have lots of friends who have been with them for multiple children.

Dr. Gary Bodner!!! He has an office at Northside on Johnson Ferry, but the one in Alpharetta is the location I go to. It is off Old Milton, across from the Waffle House and Shell station. Crescent Medical building. His number is ###-###-####. I am not a "good patient" for Drs. When I was five years old, I was very sick and almost died. So I am scared to death of Drs and he is great! Lots of experience, great bedside manner, wonderful sense of humor and he is an Artist on the side! The number is ###-###-####. Good luck!

Someone already mentioned OBGYN of Atlanta but I wanted to mention them too. I had my second child with them. My pregnancy was mostly uneventful except for one scary moment. I was with my almost 3 year old daughter in the airport getting ready to visit my husband in Arizona (he worked there most of the time so it was a big deal). When I went to the bathroom I noticed I was bleeding. I called OBGYN of Atlanta and they said to come in just to be cautious (they didn't frighten me but made sure I was seen asap). Everything turned out okay but they handled the situation calmly, took it seriously and kept me level headed throughout.
They have many doctors and midwives. Since then I've gotten to know one in particular, Dr. Kirsten Franklin. She is wonderful!
Here is their web site again: http://www.obgynofatlanta.com/index.htm
My best,

I highly recommend NorthPoint OB/GYN. If you want some one who is very optimistic I would recommend Dr. Siegel. He is great! Very experienced, always listens and never rushes patients. His bedside manner is amazing. After I had my second he came in to check on my and once my Mom was in the room and the second time a good friend was in the room and they were so impressed with him they changed ob/gyn's and started seeing him. He is super friendly and has a funny/corky personality. Everyone in that practice is great, but given what you said I think Dr. Siegel (or Dr. Barrett) would be best for you. Like someone else mentioned there are several midwives at this practice, but I don't know them as well. I do know that Margaret (who was recommended to you in a previous post) is great but she is no longer with this practice. http://www.npobgyn.com/

I have had two babies with Roswell OBGYN, they have locations in Alphretta, Woodstock, Cumming and Atlanta (near Northside). All of the doctors are wonderful. My regular Dr. is Dr. Melissa Parker, however during my pregnancies I make sure to see every Dr. in the practice at least once and they are all great!! Here is the website.

I agree. Dr Melissa Parker is great! She delivered my youngest because she was the dr. on-call at Nside and I have been thinking about changing to her ever since.

Try Melissa Parker at Roswell OBGYN. I use her in the Woodstook office but I know that she is in your area throughout the week. She is wonderful and very understanding. She did not deliver any of my three boys because I was not int he area yet, but she would have been my choice had I found her then. Mine were delievered by midwives at all three of the boys OBGYN practices. It is a wondeful experience and they are very understanding and make you feel more like a patient than a number.

If you need to have an OB/Gyn rather than a midwife, check out Dr. Lambert with North Point OB/Gyn. If you can go with a midwife, there is no one out there more experienced than Margaret Strickhouser.

Both are in Alpharetta.

I go to Dr. Echemendia at Roswell OB/GYN. He has delivered both of my babies and I really like him.
