Hi Moms, I'm looking for a reading tutor for my 7 year old in 2nd grade. She's a sharp girl that needs to continue to get some professional help with some specific skills, while I work with her at home. Thank you.

Hi,
I came across this at my son's school. It is a summer reading program by Northern Illinois school of education.
The website is www.niu.edu/outreach/reading. Check it out

Hi K.,

My name is J.. I am a literature and writing teacher for grades K-3 at Trumbull School in Andersonville. I have a masters in reading. I could possibly tutor your daughter depending on times. (I have a 3 year old and a 3 month old), or I could ask some teachers at my school. (we have some fabulous teachers in the primary grades). Let me know if you are interested.

Does the school offer any contacts? What about the school-based Occupational Therapist?

Hi K.,

I'm a little late in responding, but had to check with the person I'm referring you to before wriitng! It's my mom; she's a recently retired 1st grade teacher (37 years) and reading specialist. Also the mother of 6 kids, for what that's worth! She lives at Cullom and Campbell, so your location is ideal. She's just decided to pursue some tutoring clients, because she misses teaching so much. She's patient, fun and insightful. Her name is Mary P., and her number is ###-###-####.

Regards,

S.

K.,
I know of a great reading specialist/tutor. She is currently a specialist in the Naperville school district but lives in Lincoln Square. She actually is opening her own Reading center this summer. She honestly is great, master's degree and specializes strictly in reading. Her name is Jodi. If you would like her number pls email me at ____@____.com and I will give you all her contact info.

Hi K.,
As the mom of a once struggling reader, I do understand. My son, who is also very bright, had a lot of difficulty breaking the reading "code". The school put him in several reading programs, and none of them were helpful to him. He also went to SCORE learning, but didn't find that helpful either. (Although the SCORE math program seemed to be very effective.) Finally we tried the Wilson Reading Program. My son went twice a week faithfully for about 18 months. (I spent an absolute fortune.) Anyway, bottom line is my son is now reading above grade level and is a confident reader.
My degree is in English, and I was so impressed with the program that I went through a very extensive training program to become a Wilson reading teacher. Unfortunately, I live a little too far from you, but if you contact Wilson Reading directly, they can provide you with names of Wilson tutors in your area. I also suggest that you check with your school. Most schools are familiar with Wilson Reading and have a high regard for the program. Wilson is a highly structured and sequential program. Make sure that you use a teacher who is certified by Wilson, not just a teacher who has had some Wilson training or just gone through the overview of the program. Good luck. Rest easy. You're doing the right thing and getting your daughter help now while it is still "instructional" rather than holding off and letting it become "remedial".
