My husband and I currently have a sleep number bed and the power source has died. We've only been married 5 years and this is our 2nd bed. We got the sleep number because I like a softer bed and my husband can sleep on cinder blocks. Our old bed had big divets in it so we settled on a sleep number but it's not comfortable and just not working for us so we're on the hunt again. Anyone have a Tempurpedic or memory foam mattress? Does it get hot in the AZ summer? Does it maintain its shape? We really need some direction and cost is not an issue. We just want a comfortable bed we can have for 15 years... please tell me what bed you have and what you like about it. PS- my husband and I exercise, eat well and are in no way overweight... so that's not the problem. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

OK, thanks everyone! Well my husband and I went to a bed place 3 different times separately and compared notes. We settled on a Tempurpedic Cloud Supreme. We truly hope this is the last bed we ever buy so we will spend more than (way more) than we wanted. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

My husband and I have a Tempurpedic bed. We have the one with the pillow top. When we got it 3 years ago, it was the top of the line. We started with the upgraded mattress (it was thick, but no pillow top), but I was not that comfortable. I have shoulder issues and I needed a softer mattress. Tempurpedic does a trial for 90 days. On day 87 we went back to the place we bought the mattress and upgraded to the pillow top mattress, we just paid the difference in cost and delivery. After about 30 days, I was very comfortable on the mattress. My husband (like yours) can sleep on the ground comfortably, but we both sleep very well. I would recommend at least trying a Tempurpedic for the 90 days. We looked at the sleep number bed, but my number was so low when I rolled on my side, I literally was laying on the bed frame.

I also now have a water pillow. There is a pocket where you can put water to make it firmer or softer depending on the support you need for your neck. I didn't like it at first, but now I think it is great.

Good Luck finding something you both like.

We LOVE our Tempurpedic!!! I don't know, maybe we got it in 2004 or so?? We look forward to coming home to our bed. Like you, I prefer a soft bed and my husband could care less (sleep on anything.) Tempurpedic was said to stay hot, but we haven't experience this any more than any other bed. We were told not to put a mattress pad on it or anything other than the fitted sheet. Good luck!

I believe we have a sealy which we've had for almost 10 years. We have always used a mattress protector. About 2 years ago we bought a 4 or 5 inch waffle memory foam which has been awesome (it doesn't completely flatten out when you lay on it and is very cool). You could put that pad on any bed and make it perfectly soft.

My husband and each have an extra long twin mattress. That way we each can have the firmness we like. Put together, they make a kind size bed. If you go this route, just make sure each is the same height.

We have a knock-off of a Temperpedic (Sealy) and it is a memory-foam type mattress. Before we bought it, we did some research and the experts said to lay on the mattresses for 15 minutes when you shop and lay in the position that you normally sleep. We got a babsitter for our children and took all day to shop. We looked a the sleep number too. We have had it now for 4 years and it has held its shape. When we first got it, after about a week, it felt too hard, like sleeping on sand, so we got a topper that had a cushy pillow top and that helped. It is very comfortable, conforms to our body and I have less back problems now. Good luck!
