My son is turning 8 and has been recieving the Lego Magazines. there is an advertisement for LEgo Master Builder Academy kits that you can't get in stores (we don't have a Lego store near us at all).

for $70 you get a total of 5 kits they are delivered every 2 motnhs plus access to a website. there is an 84 page desinger handbook and a mnifigure or accessory. He has been asking about this for a month, Neither hubby nor i were really excited about it mainly because we got tired of him politely asking for it every single day. His birthday is in 4 days, hubby is just planning on getting a lego set at TRUS but i'm starting to realize DS will be crushed if he doesn't get this. and i don't even think he cares if we have it on his bday to open, he just wants it so badly to be ordered, because it is sort of a special offer.

so my questions are has anyone subscribed to tthis?? is it apporpriate/ too difficult for an 8 yo?? Is it worth the money plus shipping and handling?? At 8 if you have been obsessed for a month and not deterred would you ever get over not getting what you wanted?? I'm feeling terrible and can't seem to get hubby on board now.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

hubby would still prefer to got tio TRUS. Neither of us is big on ording stuff, I know i prefer to see it in the store and really know what i am getting. The set's seem kind of little for the price. I talked to DS and he didin't even realized it was something he wouldn't get all in one shipment, but 2 or three, instead. I"m thinking we might use this as an incentive for something down the road and let him earn some money for it. I am still looking to hear from someone how has actually done this master builder thing and sent away for stuff and been happy.

Legos are such a good toy - it's good for so many parts of a child's brain development. Based on how much Lego sets cost this sounds like a decent price. My son is 12 and still spends lots of time with his legos. As toys go this is a great one. Plus he really, really really wants it. Don't you remmeber really wanting soemthing at that age? All I wanted at 8 was a pair of roller skates - the ones with the white leather boot. My mom asked me if I was certain - becuase they were so expensive it would be my only gift. It was a dream come true when I opened that gift.

Go ahead get him his dream - it's not like it's a video game!

You should get it! My son had the previous version and loved it. I think it used to be called "Brickmaster." You want to encourage your son's giftings and this is a great way to do it.

We haven't subscribed to this - but my boys LOVE LEGOs....

our school has a LEGO club...

if he keeps them picked up and put away when he's done using them - I would say YES!! GO FOR IT!!!

I'm confused as to why you are opposed to getting him this? He loves legos, really wants this and it's a pretty reasonable price for a years worth of fun? I'd go so far as to order it, put it in a card and get him a set to open on his birthday. I guess I'm confused as to why you can't get your husband on board? It's $70, I'm not sure if thats way more than you're used to spending? I'd stop worrying about husband, order it, get him a set to open and let him have a great birthday.
