This past Friday I went in for my check up at 36 weeks and my Dr said I was 3cm dilated, 50% effaced and baby was really low... Today (5 days later), I went in and was told I am 4cm dilated, 70% effaced, baby's head was engaged and Dr said maybe a few days or to a week... Due date is Dec. 16th. I'm progressing pretty quickly, but no real contractions yet... Anything I can do to move things along a bit? I'm so uncomfortable. She's measuring a week ahead at 38 weeks also and Dr said she'd be perfectly fine if she came now.

What can I do next?

I'd say what B suggested-- just walk. Also, and I don't know if this is true, but I found that getting down on my hands and knees and scrubbing the floor was a little relief for my pelvis. And get into water for relief-- prenatal aqua exercise was such a relief for me. It gets the weight off you.

You can do absolutely Nothing.
Honestly, nothing.
Baby will come when baby is ready.
Stripping membranes is not a guarantee. My OB did it without my knowledge or consent and I carried 2 more weeks, even after loosing my mucus plug.
Even going in and having them try to induce labor isn't a guarantee. It doesn't always work.
All those ideas and suggestions are all wives tales. Eating spicy food, walking forever and everywhere, having lots of sex. None of it works unless baby is done developing and sends the signals to begin labor.
Another thing, your doctor is quoting outdated and dangerous information saying "oh it's OK" this early. It's been shown that even at 36 or 37 weeks, babies born can have many issues because they aren't developed enough yet, specifically lung development.
Your dates could be wrong. That Estimated Due Date is a guess. An educated guess, but a guess nonetheless. It assumes you have a perfect 28 day cycle, ovulated exactly on day 14 and baby takes exactly 280 days from the first day of your last period to fully develop. The word Estimated is used for a reason. The "E" does not stand for expiration either.
Those last few weeks are the hardest. You can see that you're almost there but you're still just that too much away. Everything hurts. Your body is working hard getting ready for the big day at this point.
Get lots of rest, drink lots of water, relax, watch some favorite movies or read a good book. Stop watching the clock and the calendar. Your little one will be here before you know it! Get your rest because you will need it very soon.
All the best for a quick and easy labor and delivery!

You need another week, at least. Get off your feet. Lay on your left side. Rest!! Get someone to help in the house. The bigger that baby, the more settled he or she will be and it's more healthy for the baby's lungs, too.

If you were at 39 weeks, then moving things along a bit would make sense. But 36 weeks is too early. Just because she's "measuring 38 weeks" doesn't count towards her lung development.

Honestly, at 36 weeks, I wouldn't be looking to rush things. Not all babies born at 36-37 weeks are perfectly fine, and please remember that your doctor's definition of perfectly fine may not match yours. Extra days in the NICU, hooked up to equipment, not being able to latch well, etc may still count as "perfectly fine" to the doctor in terms of outcome but not be what you consider optimal.

The last few eeks and days are so long, I really feel for you. Just keep repeating to yourself...I will not be pregnant forever, I will not be pregnant forever...even though it may feel like it right now! With all the tricks out there, short of pitocin the baby will stay put until it is time. Trust me, my second went nearly 42 weeks and I tried E V E R Y T H I N G!!! However, walking is really good for you if you do not have any medical complications, and it can help you stretch your hips/pelvis.
Best wishes for a safe and happy delivery day!!

Once you are 37 weeks, the doctor should agree to strip your membranes. If you have not gone into labor by your next appointment, I would request for that to be done. It's somewhat painful, but SO worth it! I had it done with both my second and third babies. They were both measuring big and I couldn't stand the thought of waiting another day. Each time, I went into labor the same evening that it was done.
