I have yet to find a job however some jobs start very early (Ex: 6:00 AM). How does one go about getting kids to school at 8:00 AM? Does anyone work around this type or schedule? If so how do you manage?
Luckily I was able to find a job that worked with what hours I needed. :)
I wish I had some advice for you but I am in much the same boat. I have to be at work by 7:15 and drop my 4yo across town before that. My husband is out of town about half of the month...so a lot of times it is just up to me. Next year will be even harder when he starts Kinder and I have a new baby. And my husband wonders why I don't want to work anymore.....
Hi E. my name is F. I too am a single mom. I work at my kids school as an aide. I allow them to eat breakfast at school which saves us time in the morning,and we all shower at night and get our clothes ready at night. Backpacks are by the door at night so we get up and get dressed and GO. I also threaten my kids that if they do not get up when I tell them to I will take them to school in their pajamas and make them get dressed in their school clothes there. But if they do not get up you will really haveto do what you say and make them get dressed there. They will get up next time. I promise!!!
Call around the daycares and ask them for the hours of operation. Check with the United Way on their daycare programs. You can call 2-1-1 and let them know your need and they'll direct your call to the appropriate agency that you can find out. I believe there are some that open that early. There are also some that are open until late at night.
I want to tell you being a mom is hard. I work for the school district and it works for me. I drop my kids off and pick them up. I didn't see the age of your children but this is the best job for a mom. I am a substitute teachers assistant. I work the days I want and need no one to care for my children. I often have days that one of my kids need to go to the doctor. I try my best to schudule apponintments on there days off. You know what I am off too. The down side to it is if there is no school, no pay. That is Y I work summer school so there is little time off. You have every weekend with your children and summer school pays like $14.00 an hour depending on the school district. I have done it for 6 and half years and LOVE it. No college degree needed in most districts. I have told a lot of moms and all of them love it.
For child care! Check around Boys and Girls Clubs and even area Churches. Some have free or cheaper after school programs. Your childrens school will have a list of daycares that pick up there. They may even know an in home child care provider that does after school care.

Try having the kids dressed for school the night before, let them sleep in their school clothes. You'll have to hire a sitter or daycare. Many day care centers open at 6:00am and have a bus to take the kids to and from school. When I was a kid, my dad worked nights and mom had to be at work by 6:30am. So we went to the day care and rode the bus to school. We ate breakfast at the daycare. I dont know what your skills are, but if you could get a job at the day care, sometimes you'll get a discount on your child care expenses. If you live in a house, maybe you could take care of kids in your home and run an in-home child care? Just a thought.

well my job requires me to be there at 8am. I work at a security company that starts off above min wage and I know we are hiring for monitoring operators which is essentially a desk job, its located in Westlake relatively close to Keller and Southlake.
It's very hard. I have my kids babysitter take them to school (she takes hers to school). I get up around 6:15 and wake the kids up and dressed so my husband can drop them off about 7ish. Then I get myself ready for work by 7:30. Since you are single, I think our situations are different. Do you get the kids things ready the night before?
That is one of my problems. My husband has to be at work by 7:00 so, he leaves at 6:00. He has no way of helping. I do not work yet, but everytime I inquire, it is never the schedule for me. Really, unless you have relatives or someone that can help you, its hard to do.I know daycares are usually open by 6:30 and can get them to school, but as far as 6:00, not sure. If you find out, let me know.
I teach high school and have to be at school at 7:15. I drop off my almost 4 year old at his babysitter's at 7:00, but my 4th grader doesn't start school until 8:00. Right now my husband's schedule allows him to get him ready and take him to school, but last year he had to go in early too, so he couldn't take him. We asked for help from another mom at our son's school. We were able to drop him off at her house at 6:30 and she took him to school. She even fed him breakfast. In return, I picked up her son and kept him at our house for an hour after school. We both kept saying how hard it is being a working mom (obviously stay at home moms work incredibly hard too), we need to help each other out. Ask around at your childrens' school. You may find other parents who understand your situation and are willing to help.
