So What Happened?

Well with all the conflicting advice I called the hospital and spoke to labor and delivery. They said it is safe to have sex unless my water breaks or starts to leak. They said at this point it would probably help me to go into labor. Thanks for all the advice

I have been told by various doctors and midwives that not only is it safe, it will help induce labor. Go for it!

Good morning A.. No honey it isn't safe to have relations at this time. You could introduce bacteria into your system and possibly cause your baby problems. That, of course, is only my opinion based on multiple pregnancies. Good luck.

As long as your water hasn't broken, it is completely safe!!! If it is "time," sex can actually help the process. If not, just have fun!!! HUGS and {{{{Labor vibes}}}} before induction!!!

there is supposed to be a small amount of blood in it. and i think you should not have intercourse it will cause an infection. you may be going in to labor soon also if you are having any kind of leaking no matter how small go to the hospital. it feels like you have to pee and are peeing a little this will be fluid and if it leaks to much you will have a dry birth. good luck and god bless you!!!

I don't think that it is ok to have sex when your mucous plug comes out. I don't know that for sure but I don't think it is. I hope things work out for you. Good luck with the baby!!!

Go for it & enjoy! Orgasim can even aid in starting labor. Once your water breaks, though, its no-no.

I see that you are getting about a 50/50 response here. First of all, when in doubt just call your Dr. the nurse can answer your question quickly. Ok, now to my "I know for a fact" opinion. You can have sex until your water breaks. The reason I know this is that I am an early labor gal and with my first child I lost my plug around 34 weeks. That too was one of my questions. Yes there is something to protect your child from bacteria THE WATER SACK. That is why you cannot have sex after your water breaks - there is nothing to protect the child from bacteria. I think maybe some have gotten the two mixed up. Good luck and with you asking this question - I bet you have a baby in the next 48 hours!! hehehehe

A.,

I don't know if the experts will say having sex after the mucus plug is out is ok or not but I know it sure didn't hurt me! :) Shoot, when you're 13 days overdue you'll try anything!

No it is not safe to have sex you could hurt the baby since you say this is you 3rd time pregnant but first baby, your husband can wait till the doctor says it safe that will be a couple of weeks after you deliver and then you should use protection you can get knock-up again. I have 4 children and my doctor had me cut out sex the last month it is to easy to hurt the babies head there are other ways to take care of your hubby, like hand jive [4 fingers and thumb ], I can't believe your doctor has said something to you about sex since they are going to induced labor good luck

My doctor told us that it was safe to have sex until I went into labor. He never said anything about it causing infection due to the loss on the mucous plug. If your water starts leaking or breaks I wouldn't have sex after that. Before then the amniotic sac around your baby should protect it. Also there is very little risk of losing all of your amniotic fluid even of your water does start leaking. Until you actually give birth, your amniotic fluid continually renews itself.

You should probably ask your doctor. I've heard that you shouldn't have sex after you lose the mucous plug due to risk of infections, but I'm not sure how true it is or if it only applies to women who may have other complications. Your Dr. would know. Good Luck!

Yes, it is safe as long as your water bag is intact. Sex may even bring on labor, but don't count on it!

I see you have gotten two conflicting sets of advice. You can always talk to your doctor about it if you are concerned. I would agree with those who said it is completely safe. Now if your water starts leaking or breaks, then no, you shouldn't because of the risk of infection. And in some cases it will help start labor.

A., As a mother... I would say no just to be safe, especially since it seems this is your first full term child. Plus your going to be induced on Monday and it might break your water?? Check with your OB/GYN and do exactly as he/she says. Congrats & Good Luck as a Young New Mom! C. C

My Dr told me that to go ahead and to have sex that it would help w/ the muscles contracting. I didnt ask she mentioned it at my last ob appt. I was 2 centimeters and 80% effaced. And had mentioned to her that I thought I had lost some of my plug. She said that it might get things moving along and it wouldnt hurt either since I would be having sex for a few weeks after the baby was born! wink..wink..

Best of luck.
