Hi moms! A dear friend of mine just had her second baby and is determined to BF. However, she has extremely inverted nipples. This was the reason she gave up BF with her first. She pumps and usually only gets about 1 oz from each breast, but she is full/engorged. Any advise on how she can be more sucessful. I suggested calling Le Leche League...but honestly, she is just so modest and embarrassed, I dont' think she wants to share her situation with a stranger. Thanks for all your wise advise in advance!

Hi,

I had the same problem. In the hospital they gave me Medela breast shields. It's like a silicone nipple that the baby can latch onto. It suctions the milk out, and eventually pulls her own nipple out so she doesn't need them any more. I successfully breastfed for 6-7 months with my 1st, and I had NO issues with my 2nd. She can get them at the hospital or maybe La Leche League can recommend somewhere else. Also online.

Hope this helps!

Hi
She can get "nipple shields" from Target or any other store. They are little plastic shields that helo with latching and pulling the nipple out
Good luck

Go with the breast shields everybody has talked about. That will definetly work. It worked for me. Tell her to hang in there.

There should be someone at the mother baby center at her hospital. I know she is modest but this is what they do for a living. She also may want to try nipple guards. They go on like a bottle nipple over her breast and help to pop her own nipples out through the baby's sucking.
