I teach music classes at Wonderworks a museum in Oak Park, not far from certain parts of Chicago. They are not as expensive as some of the others. Also, every single day, beginning on June 1 or June 3 until September 1, in Millenium park at 10 am there are wiggle worms (music) teachers performing for 45 minutes and then there is an art tent right next door. All free, every day and other fun things there to do!
good luck

check out chicago park district. We do free story hours, free craft hours, playgroups(low cost) I've been very pleased and have met lot's of other really cool moms. I think it depends on what district you live in...I'm in Bucktown/Wicker Park. Also, check out which parks have kiddie pools or water parks...soo fun!

good luck!

Hello,

you can pick up, from the Chicago Public Library, a copy of Chicago Parent newspaper and if you can find one, a Chicago Places magazine. The Chicago Places Magazine is a little harder to find. In them, there are so many activities, festivals places for families to experience. You can totally have something to do every single day of the summer and it doesn't have to be the same activity. Have a great summer!

Chicago Park District, great classes and CHEAP! But you must sign up early... Check out their website, too, as they have free stuff going on all summer. The city splash pools are always fun!

More expensive, but worth it for us was Gymboree. They have classes, as well as free "open gym" time three times a week, which was a real lifesaver during the hottest summer days (air conditioned).

Check out www.gocitykids.com under the "Chicago" section. They have a listing of what's going on daily in the city and suburbs, and lets you know what's free or has a fee.

Have a great summer!

Mel.

Check out www.kidwinks.com. I just starting using this website, and it's awesome! You can search for a variety of things, and even do a search on "free". You'll find restaurants that offer free kids' meals and what day, free story times, etc. etc. Also, they have a contest each month for writing reviews. My girlfriend just won $50.

Merit School of Music in the West Loop has kids music classes that are quite good. They serve a variety of populations and offer financial aid and scholarships on a sliding income scale.

Chicago Park District has inexpensive classes - but you need to sign up early as these go fast. Also Barnes and Noble has free story times as does the Chicago Public Libraries. Chicago museums all have a free day - ie the Childrens Museum at Navy Pier is free one night a week. Also in the summer the zoo is a great option if you are close enough to walk.

Good luck

Look into Wiggleworms! The Old Town School of Folk Music holds Wiggleworms, an dance along, sing along, play along type of concert in Millenium Park 10am - 10:45 Monday through Friday beginning Tuesday (June 3rd). It runs through the summer. We're going to try to go a few times a week!!!
