Hi everybody... I just found out that I am pregnant... Have any of you heard of implantation bleeding? I think that I am about 5 weeks or so but was reading some literature that said this bleeding occurs and is sometimes mistaken for a period. The 1st day of my last period was July 16 but only lasted 2 days and was not only a week early but very short and lighter than normal.. After reading about the implantation bleeding it made me second guess my "period", maybe it wasn't really one. I know that you don't usually schedule the 1st doc. appt. until 10-12 weeks, but if my guess is right I may be farther along than I thought...

What can I do next?

Thanks everybody for all the input!! I decided to schedule a DR. appointment for the 1st week in Oct. I will have an ultrasound to determine how many weeks more accurately. Keep you all updated, THANKS!! AGAIN!!!

Liz,
The same thing happend with our first baby and she was very healthy and I guess it happens more than we think. so I would count your due date from the last period before the spotting date. Good luck and congradulations!

when they tell you to go by your last period they mean you last normal period so if you last one was actually lighter and shorter than normal you would prob. go by your previous one just let you dr. know and they will do and ultrasound to find out I had my first appt. at 7 wks but they thought I was 12 wks they just want you in by 12wks congrats.

For the first 4-5 months of my pregnancy, I had implantation bleeding with my second child. It was a scary thing. The key with it is to NOT stress. Obviously stressing only hurts things, so keep calm. I would definitely make an appointment with my doctor to get things checked out and get a more accurate gestational time. Congrats and good luck!!

Hi Liz,
Congratulations!! How exciting. I just have one 3 year old boy and I remember my "period" starting like 2 weeks early.. it wasn't like a normal period but I remember thinking it was an early one. I called my dr. because I thought I needed my hormones checked, etc... turns out I was pregnant and the bleeding most likely was what you are describing. At that point they told me I was 5 weeks also, then thru a series of ultrasounds gave me my due date, which I always felt was incorrect. Like 2-3 weeks off. In my heart I knew when we conceived and sure enough, it was 9 mos to the date almost my water broke!! Pretty crazy. 2 weeks earlier than they speculated. I knew.. so if you have a "feeling" - roll with it. ::)

I wouldn't worry too much... Implantation bleeding definitely happens, but also I know many women who had a period for the first couple of months of their pregnancy. I would make your dr. appt as soon as you can get in, just to verify and have the dr. measure where you are (approx) that way you know for sure!

Its ok to go to the doc early even just because! I went just because I couldnt believe I'd gotten pregnant so fast and wanted HIM to do the test, then I went when I spotted just a bit because I was worried, and then I finally went for my "first" appointment. A doctors apointment won't hurt and will do wonders to reasure.

Hi Liz,

Yes, it sounds like your case was an implantation bleeding. it happened to me twice. The first time it happened, after i described my last period to my ob-gyn which was quite similar to yours (just very light and did not last more than 2days) the doctor told me it was an implantation bleeding.

You don't have to be concerned too much though, as doctors can tell how many weeks of gestation you are through ultra-sound.

Congratulations on having a new addition to your family!

Implant bleeding can be anything from very similar to a light "period" to just some light spotting. It doesn't happen to everyone, as you might know from your earlier pregnancy, but I think it's fairly common with subsequent pregnancies. It doesn't hurt to wait for your first appointment, usually they do an ultrasound to determine exact due date anyway, but you can always let them know that you aren't really sure when your last period was so they more than likely will do one.
More than likely, it was just a "strange" period!
