Spotting in First Trimester

I'm 5 weeks pregnant, and have been spotting (brown, pink) daily a couple of times a day, sometimes with light cramping, for the past several days. I haven't seen my doc yet due to the holiday weekend. I'm also out of town for several more days so I won't get to see my doc until later. I'm not physically hurting badly, but I'm getting worried. I'm trying to keep my feet up as much as possible and keep my life less stressful. Has anyone experienced this and went on to having a healthy pregnancy and baby? Thanks in advance for any positive thoughts.

What can I do next?

e same thing. My Dr. told me to go to bed and stay there until it quit. If it stays stopped for 24 hrs. then you will probably be ok. I went on to deliver a healthy baby.

Light brown and pink spotting can be perfectly normal. Many women experience spotting in the first trimester. If you see bleeding that is enough to reach a pad and is red in color like your cycle, then you should be concerned. Otherwise, just take it easy and, as you have been doing, keep your feet up as much as possible.

Congrats on the pregnancy and my prayers are with you!

I went to my OBGYN for a yearly pap smear. When he was about to give me a pap smear, he noticed a little blood and told me that I was getting my period so we would have to make another appointment. But I never got a full period. Well, I must have never made another appointment because three months later, I figured out I was pregnant. I then went into the OBGYN and he scheduled me for an ultrasound. It turned out I was 16 and 1/2 weeks pregnant. (I don't get my period regularly so that did not alert me; even though she turned out to be my third child.) It turns out that I was pregnant during that first appointment.

So yes, a little spotting may mean nothing or something depending on what happens next.

Good luck... I hope everything works out well for you!

Hi,

Probably just implantation bleeding. Try to rest as much as possible, don't stress and take care of yourself really well. Talk to your doctor if you are still having issues or are worried.

Good luck!

With my first baby is spotted some and rushed to the ER and it was nothing. I was told it was implanation bleeding. She is now 30 years old!

Pregnancy number 2- at 9 weeks, I began having some cramping one day for several hours and had a miscarriage. I was told it was a blighted ovum (a sac, a placenta and cord, but no baby). Many times when you have an early misscarriage, this is the reason. I would go to the doc for your peace of mind and rest until then. Unfortunately, if it is going to happen, it is going to happen.

Hope you repeat my first scenario.

PS- I then went on to have 2 more perfectly normal pregnancies without a hiccup!

At that point in pregnancy you are likely dealing with old left over blood from implantation. By all means, if you're concerned, you SHOULD call the doctor. That's what they're there for :).

I get implantation bleeding with all my pregnancies without fail and usually have residual spotting for the first few weeks. Just ask your doc when you do see them, or even when you talk on the phone, what their guidelines are for when you should be concerned and when you don't need to be. My doctor says its the equivilant of a nose bleed.. doesn't always mean something, but it will drive you nuts!

Hope you have happy and healthy 9 months :)

Hello,

I am 37 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child and had brown spotting with my 1st pregnancy, and also with this current pregnancy. After the spotting with my 1st pregnancy I was never tested for anything and the pregnancy was completely normal. I spotted then off with that pregnancy until the 2nd trimester. Never red.. always brown old blood. This pregnancy, my pregnancy levels were checked at 5 weeks due to spotting and it was found that I had extremely low progesterone - at a 7...which was causing the spotting. I read too much on the internet and was so sure I was going to miscarry. I was immedialy put on progesterone supplements, and everything was fine after that. I bet it was low with the 1st pregnancy too.

I would go see the Dr. when you get back into town and asked to have your hcg and progesterone levels checked. I think with most miscarriages that the blood turns bright red.. but some do stay brown. They also may check you for a tubal pregnancy like they did me because brown spotting is a normal symptom, but you would start to get bad cramps the further along you get if that was the case.

I am sure you are fine.. try not to worry!! Best of luck!

Yes I had that twice before and the first time it was a miscarriage and the second time I had a healthy baby girl. The difference was with the miscarriage more blood kept coming and it turned bright red and the cramps eventually got much worse. With my daughter I only saw a little brownish pink color also and very faint cramps. But I was certain the same thing was happening all over again! The best thing to do is make an appt. with your Dr. asap and they will test your hcg levels to see if they are doubling. I would ask for an ultrasound though if your impatient like me because you have to wait 2 days and then have them tested again, and even then it can be misleading because mine weren't doubling but my baby turned out ok! They can most likey detect a heartbeat on an ultrasound even at 5 weeks so that will put your mind at ease. Best of wishes, I hope everything is perfectly fine!!

I did the same thing with my 1st pregnancy. I started spotting at 5 weeks and continued bleeding and spotting until 13 weeks. I even had heavy periods (one time filled a maxi in 5 minutes!) My baby ended up just fine! My doctor did put me on bedrest as long as I was bleeding (he is very conservative), but it was well worth it.

Good luck!

I am 9 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. I have experienced mild cramping off and on and spotting only once. My spotting happened after intercourse and I kinda freaked out too. I read up alot on it in the books I have and mild cramping is totally normal, as well as light spotting as long as the blood isnt red like a full blown period. I had a sonogram at 7 weeks and everything was fine. I hope this helps ease your mind!

With my first son I had one weekend of lots of bleeding and some cramps, I think I was about 12 weeks along at that time. It happened on a weekend, my dr told me that I could go to the hospital, but at 12 weeks if I was having a miscarriage, there was nothing anyone could do for me. He suggested that I take it easy, and lay down as much as possible. He got me in first thing Monday morning - everything was absolutely fine. He could not tell from the u/s what happened...but baby looked great. He said that sometimes there is just unexplained bleeding. Today I have a perfect active 2 year old running through the house!!! Try not to worry too much, it may just be one of those things. Hugs to you!

Will the DR. see you at 5 weeks?Mine didn't I was sent for an US instead. If something is beging to happen in the process on losing baby there isn't anything medically that can be done to prevent it this early in pregnancy.I had camping & spoting with my 1st pregnancy was OK must add that I had bleeding off and on for a while during my 1st pregnancy it wasn't bright red or heavy had it checked numerous times they say that some women bleed during pregnancy hard to belive but if you've had sex recently your cevix may be tender ,my 2nd didn't have it my 3rd only during the implatation process it was my left ovary that was dominent.Hope all goes well..Keep us posted

I had the same problem with my first pregnancy, it happened between my 5 and 6 weeks of pregnancy, my level of progesterone was lower and If I did not see my doctor in time I could have a miscarriage because it was the beginning of very heavy bleeding. My doctor prescribed me special medicine and it saved our son. With my second pregnancy my doctor saw me as early as possible; I believe I was only couple weeks and at once check my level of progesterone. The picture was the same and I was prescribed again the medicine. It saved our second pregnancy. On my opinion you have to see your doctor immediately in order to make clear why do you do have these spouts because for implantation spats it is late already.
Best wishes.
