Hi AK-

An 'oldie' but still a goodie...the 'hardy boys'?

That's all I got right now...but my guys are much older now...but in the day...they liked them!!

Best luck!

***ETA...my oldest boys were about this age when harry potter first came out...they would 'fight' over the books...so I immediately began reading them myself..(what kids 'fight' over a book??? lol)

We have all been fans over the years...

Pete also mentions an OLD series called 'The How and Why' series...discusses electricity...plumbing...etc...May be still available...

Lord of the rings...Chronicles of narnia may be still too old for them...depends...

From my own childhood, I remember moving up from Goosebumps to R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike around that age. Be warned, though, that they are closer to actual horror stories. I started reading Stephen King around the same age.

I also ditto the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit...but start with the Hobbit, because it's shorter and not as gruesome.

I also really enjoyed A Series of Unfortunate Events, but it's nothing like Goosebumps.

Over my many yrs. working in a childrens bookstore these were requested many times: http://www.amazon.com/gp/richpub/syltguides/fullview/2U5X...
They are the closest thing to Goosebumps I can think of.

Another to add to the other mom's lists...the Charlie Bone series by Jenny Nimmo.
I've read about 4 of them and enjoyed them. Think Harry Potter light. ;)

my younger son is 15...so we just finished this age group. Here's some of his favs:

Artemis Fowl series Charlie Bone series
Alex Rider Diary of a Wimpy Kid series
Fablehaven James Patterson's series...Maximum Ride
Life as We Knew It series
Christopher Paolini's series: Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, & the new one
The Hunger Games may be too old for him.

Keep him reading....it will last a lifetime!

Artemis Fowl
Eldest and the ones that go with it.
Percy Jackson
Magic Treehouse, these are a little young but mine loves them for a fun read.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid, mine did not like these, but a good friend of his did.
