Ideas for My Daughter's 2Nd B-day Party!

My daughter will turn 2 on Oct.5! I really need some advice on how to plan a fun family oriented party at our house! For her 1st b-day, I had way to many family members over, in our 3 bedroom ranch home! This year, I would really like to have something outside, but the only problem is that our backyard doesn't have a swingset, yet, or many things for her cousins to play with! If my husband doesn't have time to do the back deck by then, our newly finished basement is an option, but that means everything would have to be carried up & down! My daughter loves to run around & play outside, so I would love to have some ideas on how to provide some fun for the other ones without breaking the pocket book! Thanks for your ideas & advice!!

My daughter's 3rd birthday party is actually this coming weekend and we're having a pony party. Renting a pony for an hour is about $100 or so depending on where you get one from but the kids will LOVE it and my daughter is super excited.
Last year we had an amazing luau for her 2nd birthday n that turned out really nice. We dressed the basement to have tiki walls and then our deck turned into an outdoor tiki hut. The adults LOVED it! October is also a good month to have a halloween themed birthday party where the kids can dress up. Another good idea I have stored in my mind is a Carnival theme. Set up some tables in the backyard n have cheap games like shooting a water gun at cups or something.

try looking on www.familyfun.com - they have great ideas for bday parties. also, keep in mind it might be chilly in October and you might want to have it inside or may have to change your plans last minute due to that week's weather. Also in October, if you have trees outside, rake up the leaves into some big piles - kids of all ages love to jump into the leaves! try walmart for cheap games, toys, and prizes, or the dollar store - i always find great things that my son loves there (he's 21 months, bday is Nov. 2). good luck - let us know how it goes!

I know this sounds like a horrible mess.. but it was a great turn out... we had a Paint party last year and it was very cheap. We Hung 8X10 sheets of paper on line in the garage and I bought washable poster paint at the flower Factory and let them paint. The cutest part.. for party gifts..also at the Flower factory I bought cloth aprons (plain) and stenciled the kids names on the aprons and put a paint brush and a few knick knacks in the three pockets... it was super cute! And kept them entertained. Let me know if you want more details...

Summer toys are on sale right now all over. Go out and buy some small things like balls and wiffle ball and bat, and other things you can find. Little toys like that can lead to fun entertainment for children (and big kids aka outgoing mom's and dad's) too! They will also be extra things that your daughter can play with outside. I got a bat and ball the other day at walgreens for like $3, and they have small plastic balls too that are real cheap!

Call your local Parks & Rec office. Many have free or very low cost places you can reserve/ rent. Ask which ones have playgrounds, etc.

Perhaps you could rent one of those inflatable bounce houses for the back yard. During the beginning of October it's still relatively warm outside for that. My son, who is a week away from 3, went to a party that had one of these bounce houses and he and the other kids had a blast jumping up and down in this thing. Perhaps you could always get a juggler, kids musician or a "character" of some type to make an appearance also. Just a few ideas for you. Hope that helps.
