My girl's bday was December 24th and we have yet to give her an "official" bday party. She is now at the age where she wants to invite friends from preschool. Any ideas of where to have it or if we do it at our house - how do we entertain them? It would have to be during the weekend so Chuck E Cheese it out - way too crowded for me!! Anyone do it at Patti's Gymnastics? Kinda pricey though......

What can I do next?

5 yr old is prime age for makeovers or a princess party. Have all the girls wear princess dresses and give them tiaras and wands as goody bags. Princess cake and everybody meet at Mickey Ds

Have a fancy tea party. little girls love that. they can dress up and you have little finger foods and fancy dishes (get them at the second hand store so they are not your good china lol) they can bring their favorite dolls with them and set the table for that also. my daughter always loved those kind of partys. daddy and another friend can help to serve. set your time frame for about an hour and a half. by the time they get the tea set up and served and maybe read a book about a tea party and you have cake and presents its over.

Its long past, but I was looking at another of your questions.

I had a child born on the 29th of December. We did half birthdays and help her birthday parties on the 29th of June. It worked out very well. I have also read where other families did this also because it worked for them and didn't put another event around Christmas.

Good luck to you and yours.

My daughter also turned 5 on Christmas Eve. We also struggle with parties. Last year we decided to have a half birthday party at a pool!! She loved it and everyone was extremely understanding!!! They even understood that it was for her 4 year party when we went to have a party this year for 5. The hardest thing was explaining that she won't get 2 parties every year, LOL! The wording I used on the invite said "Because it's tough to swim in December please join us for a pool party to celebrate (name)'s 5-1/2 birthday!". The HUB pool is nice in CP but not sure of the price for a party there. If you didn't want to wait, have you thought of Bellaboo's? We have gone to a lot of parties there.

If you do it at your house, have a few games/activities for the kids. My daughter has an April birthday so one year we decorated bags and used them for an Easter egg hunt. All the kids loved it! Obviously, you don't want to do an egg hunt, but you could do some sort of scavenger hunt with whatever theme the party has. It is also a good idea to have some sort of craft for the kids to work on while people are arriving. That allows you to greet guests without having the kids run around like crazy. Kids that age like pinatas and games like pin the tail on the donkey. Another idea for an activity is make your own pizza, make your own sundae, or decorate cookies. Although it can seem very daunting, entertaining that age kid isn't nearly as bad as it sounds!

If you do it at home, have her pick a theme that she likes, and plan some crafts, games, snacks, decorations, and cake around that theme. My daughter's 4th b-day is on Sat. It's a strawberry shortcake theme, but she wants to paint so I bought suncatchers for the kids to paint (we have boys and girls, so didn't want it to be TOO girly). We are also making backpack keychains with beads. I shopped at Michaels and Joanne for the craft supplies, but you can also find crafts on orientaltrading.com. You can find lots of game ideas online. Have fun!
