Hi H.! My 6 year old step daughter loves to do crafts. How about someplace like the Clay Station in EHT? They have party rates. Also, a great place in Smithville is the Brownstone puppet theater where she actually did have her birthday party. Everyon got a puppet as a parting gift! It was neat!

Hi H.,

I love birthday parties. You could do a disco theme. One year we even hired a DJ - it was a little extravagent but fun. However, it could be done with just a MP3 player or ipod. Another idea would be to do a mini spa party. Just paint finger and toe nails and give each girl a little goodie bag with some chapstick and misc stuff.

I also am a member of Noah's Ark Animal Workshop - a Traveling Stuff-n-Fluff party or Bella Bee Glamour Girl Workshop - All come to you. We provide you with the party leader, activity and take home gift all for one price. It is a great value. You can find a local member. The parties are tons of fun. The Glamour Girl party teaches inner beauty as well as doing a little make-up application. If you want to check it out you can look at my website www.ananimalaffair.com

Another simple idea is a small sleepover - you can do twister, movie and make pizza.

I have done all of these ideas and all the kids talk about how great the party was.

Good luck and enjoy your daughter's party.

Does she like Hannah Montana? A Rock Star party? I know everyone seems to go with a "theme" these days, but whatever happened to the good old balloons & pin-the-tail, piñata parties? LOL

I did a fantastic tie dye birthday party for my god daughter's 10th birthday, the girls loved it! I'm thinking 6 year olds would enjoy it as well:

Tie dye shirts (OUTDOORS)
Then while the shirts were drying they made tie dye magnets out of fimo clay I got from AC Moore. They shaped them into t-shirts using plastic knives and then I attacked a magnet strip to the back after they were baked in the oven.
Finally, the girls made individual pizzas "tie dyed" by putting their favorite toppings on then we baked them.

It was a huge hit and my god daughter (who is now 15) still raves about that party! We also made a t-shirt shaped sheet cake and used spray icing from the supermarket to tie dye that!

Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

My daughter is turning 7. We're having a party at Atomic Bounce. They do all the work. The basic party is an 1 hour and 1/2 of bouncing and then 1/2 hour in the party room for cake. We're doing the upgrade so we'll have party games like limbo and twister, a face painter, and the bouncing. We are all super excited about it. It's so funny because our other friend is having a birthday there the next day and we're excited to get to go back!

Good luck!

What about an outdoor party like a garden tea party, a water party with sprinklers turned on, or a luau? Maybe buy inexpensive gardening supplies and have them plant a flower or tomato seeds to take home.

We had a bowling party this past year when my daughter turned 6, and it was fun and active and the bowling alley took care of everything. Last year she had a princess ballerina party at the dance studio she was going to, and I thought the people there did a wonderful job of getting the kids following stories and directions and dancing in different styles. My daughter's all-time favorite party that she's attended, though, was a Hannah Montana mock sleepover (5-8 p.m.), where they did some crafts and some friends of the mom painted all the girls' nails and french-braided their hair. That beat out the party she went to where there was a pony!

Hi, H.. For my daughter's 6th birthday in April, we went to a local tea room that does little girl parties & it was fabulous! I specified on the invitation to wear their prettiest party dress & bring their favorite doll (the tea room had little seats for the dolls to sit at the table next to the girls!). The girls got to sit at pretty tables & drink lemonade out of fancy china tea cups. The tea room provided a tea party meal, cake & ice cream, balloons for the girls to take home & a craft. Instead of treat bags (which I'm so over, btw), I found adorable little sun hats on eBay & gave each girl a hat to match her dress. The photos from the party are a treasure & my daughter had a very memorable 6th birthday! Have fun whatever you decide to do!

What does your daughter like? Who will be her guests? Maybe a playground party with a few "field games", bubbles, craft, etc.

For my daughter's 6th b-day, we did a princess tea party & had everyone come as their favorite princess or party gown. I found inexpensive tea sets at toys r us & read "Polite as a Princess" before we ate (which worked out great, the girls were so well behaved at the table!" I even wore an old bridesmaid dress which the girls (& their moms) got a good laugh from. My daughter is not into games so they had free play time with a castle we had made from cardboard boxes, painted wands (from ac moore, I prewrapped the bottom with ribbon & hot glued), & we made flower bouquets & a runway so they could "pose" with their princess fashions...
