I Hate Waiting! So Anxious!

I am 9 weeks pregnant (or supposed to be) and I went last Friday for the 8 week ultrasound where it showed the baby only measuring at 6 weeks. The heart rate was 111 bpm which is on the lower end of normal according to my doctor. So I have to go back this Friday for a repeat ultrasound to see if the baby has grown appropriately and if the heart rate has increased. I am so anxious for Friday to get here. I've been trying to keep busy and to keep my mind off of it, but it's so hard.

The ultrasound tech gave me a 50/50 chance of it being viable. I go from feeling positive about it, to doubting it five minutes later. I've spent a lot of time researching on the internet and half of the stories have had a good outcome and the other half not. It seems like the majority of the people who were sure of when they ovulated and were positive their dates were correct had a bad outcome with the baby measuring 2 weeks smaller. I know when I ovulated because I always get ovulation pain. I can see if the egg took awhile to fertilize and implant, my dates would be off, but surely not by two weeks.

I know there is nothing I can do, but wait and hope...This was an unplanned pregnancy, but I was starting to get really excited about it. If I lose the baby, I know that will be it for my child-bearing years. My husband didn't want a 4th and while he says he's happy about it, I know he wouldn't want to try to get pregnant again. And truthfully, I don't think I could take the worry and stress of this possibly happening again.

So, I guess I'm looking for ideas to keep calm and asking for prayers.

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

So What Happened?

I am sad to report that this pregnancy is headed for miscarriage. The repeat ultrasound showed no growth in the last week, and a very faint heartbeat. It wasn't able to be traced, but she could see if flickering slightly on the screen. Since there is a flicker, I have to go back next Fri to have another ultrasound and check if it's gone. If so, I will have a D&C unless I start to miscarry on my own first.

honesty you might think my advice is crazy BUT if you are stressing this much go to the ER with fake pains and ask to be internally ultrasounded (is that a verb)
after my miscarriage when i had a healthy baby (it was tested) at 12 weeks and i was high risk with emmy, in the 1st 8 weeks there was one time i was stressing so much i J. used the er to pacify M.. I was switching doctors because i moved and my previous doctor reccomended weekly ultrasouns at first and the new one couldnt see M. yet. YES I know this is wrong but it was once and worth it for M. to stop freaking out=)
so if you want to KNOW whats going on J. go to the er

When I was pregnant with my son, I knew the first day of my last period (It was the night I went to a concert and I was really bummed about it). I knew the day I had sex (Only had sex once that month and it was on my-then-boyfriend-now-husbands 1 year anniversary with me). When through my entire pregnancy knowing my due date was October 28th.

Through the whole pregnancy I always measured small - 2 or 3 weeks small. I'm a small person to begin with so my doctor wasn't too concerned until week 28, and then I had to have ultrasounds every two weeks just to make sure everything was still going good.

Well, I had my 40 week check up on October 27th. I was miserable being pregnant so my doctor decided to schedule an induction for the following Monday, November 1st.

As my doctor was looking through my records she came across the very first ultrasound I had at 11 weeks, and apparently the technician noted then that the baby only measured 9 weeks and switched my due to November 11... But nobody told me! So the whole pregnancy I thought my due date was October 28 only to find out at 40 weeks that my due date was November 11 and I was only 38 weeks. That is probably the cruelest joke you could ever play on a pregnant woman.

Since I was 100% positive on my dates (I still believe I was 40 weeks), and even 38 weeks would still be in the safe zone, my doctor scheduled an induction for November 1.

I went into labor on my own on October 29 and now have a beautiful 2 year old son. He was born at 6lbs 12oz and 19 inches long so he wasn't tiny. Just a small baby for a small mommy :)

I went in right around that time with my pregnancy and there was no "pull" and no heartbeat. I was devastated and cried and cried.
They told me to come back in a week and they would check just to make sure and scheduled me for a D&C.
I know how hard the waiting is. I couldn't get it out of my head!! I was a mess.
8 months later I had my healthy wonderful daughter!
My story is good and I hope yours is as well.

Remember that measurements and "dates" are estimates based on statistical averages... those statistics mean nothing to an individual.
And yes, dates can be very "off". A girlfriend of mine was given a due date of 2/28/13. When she went for the 12 week ultrasound, they adjusted it to 2/15/13.

Estimates... estimates... keep telling yourself that. My OBGYN was a huge proponent of giving a two week range rather than a "date" because babies don't know how to read calendars and they tend to be on their own schedule!

I am not sure if this will help and it might be TMI, but here you go...

You say you know when you ovulate b/c you get pain. I do too and thought for years that when I had pain was when I was ovulating but thanks to my husband and his *total* love for my body and all things that have to do with my reproductive organs, he has informed me that he believes that I actually ovulate about 3 -4 days AFTER the pain. He says that he can tell just by feeling the difference in my wetness, he says I feel really silky when I actually ovulate and I tend to believe him b/c it coordinates with when I feel very 'lovey' towards him too. My husband tracks my periods and knows exactly when I am going to start my period. I know it sounds creepy but he just keeps track in his head....and I love him for it and think its kinda sweet ;)

Told you it might be TMI.

But maybe that gives you some hope? You might be off a couple days and then the tech might be off a couple days and then you are not that 'off' on your dates?

My daughter measured right on target for what I felt was ovulation cramps, and implantation cramps, so I can't help much. But whatever is suppose to happen will happen. Science is an amazing thing, and the female human body creating a baby? Amazing. If your baby is measuring small and it's viable, then it was meant to happen. If it turns out your baby isn't viable, then as sad as it is, then that was meant to happen. There is a reason for everything. I hope that wasn't negative!! But I will hope and hope and hope with all my might that everything turns out positively!!!

I had no idea with my first and they kept changing my due dates throughout the pregnancy due to measurements. They are just estimates.

With my second I knew within a few days of when I conceived but she always measured smaller than what she should have been. It is really just estimates and you can never tell for sure. Just hang in there, I know it is hard. With my second I had a host of problems that took me to the Dr. every week and it always seemed like there was something new to worry about it, but somehow you make it through.

They kept telling me my last was too big for the dates I gave them. Too big. I was high risk and on monitoring cause they wanted to get me in for C-section if he was too big. He kept measuring well over 11 pounds from measurements. When he came, I had him naturally and he was on the larger side of 7 pounds. How could they be so wrong? so anyway they were and he was fine. I think they just say it to have you prepare for the worse, but generally its a good outcome.

If it give you any hope I was wrong about my two sons as to when I ovulated and both were measuring 2 weeks ahead. I always thought I knew when I ovulated and apparently I didn't. I hope everything turns out positive for you.

I have been through this. Lets just say it is impossible! I'm praying for you and hoping all your dreams come true. If u are a believer then you need to let to and let God do his plan and know deep in your heart his plan is the best. Now I do have good news the doctors really don't know. That is why they give it a 50% chance. My daughter who was a week behind they said oh this one will not make it. It's not growing and once it gets more than a week behind the other twin will take over so be prepared for spotting and rest during it etc. well she stayed smaller than her brother!!! She is alive and one spit fire of a kid!! I laugh and say drs told me u wouldn't make it, boy were they wrong! She almost died at three months old too. She got down to three pounds at three months old. I kept searching for the right dr. Took the 5 th specialist yes fifth dr to help and keep her alive, growing and yes by 5 months old smiling. Never underestimate the power of prayer and perseverance. I now she why God put her here and kept her here she is one strong cookie. Now for the bad news is I did have 7 miscarriages before that. Do you know if your hcg blood level numbers are doubling? That will tell you for sure what's going on. Also start taking 81 mg of baby aspirin each day until 13 weeks. The only other thing your dr should've done was a progesterone level blood test too. If that's low u should take supplements until at least 13 weeks some women go longer like 20 weeks!!! Good luck and may you trust and believe in God at this point.
