I-touch ?

I would love to have an I-Phone (I think they are so neat !) but can't afford the extra cost for the data plan. So I just use my regular cell phone which is fine. But I have thought about getting an I-Touch for the pictures, videos, games, music, apps, etc. I know if you are someplace with Wi-Fi you can connect to the internet. Does anyone have one ? Would you recommend one or is there something similar that you would recommend ? Thanks for any suggestions !

I just got one for my birthday and I love it!!! A lot of the apps are free. My 2.5 y/o loves playing it!! I got him some learning games that he plays while waiting somewhere (like the dr or anywhere he needs to be quiet...it's the only thing that has ever gotten him to sit still and quiet for more than 5 seconds:) I wish I had gotten one sooner.

I have an I-Touch and primarily use it around the house. It is a great way to surf the web or email when not on your computer. My 3 1/2 year old twin girls love it too. I have a handful of toddler games installed and they play them all the time without help. I actually wish I had 2 as the girls don't always share so well. :)

My husband and I got each other iTouches for Christmas and we both LOVE them!!!!! I use mine as an organizer, to listen to relaxation downloads as I fall asleep, to listen to music, to play games like trivial pursuit and solitaire, to get on the internet - and there are more wifi spots than you think, I guess depending where you live. All of Addison is a Wifi spot! Most starbucks and mcDonalds and many other restaurants. Its great for traveling - most hotels have free Wifi. I have a daughter with a chronic health condition and hospitals all have free wifi, so it comes in handy for us. They have apps for eveything too! You wouldn't believe it!!! I love it! Best gift I ever got!

I love my iPod Touch and so does my 2 year old. It is very user friendly, apps are easy to load and it connects quickly and reliably to any wifi network. I have really enjoyed mine, but more importantly my 2 year old is addicted. I have tried to find something similar for him, but there is no substitution for it. It is a great little gadget.

I absolutely love mine. I'm posting this on my iPod touch. I am a nursing mom of a little girl that loves to nurse. It gives me something to do no matter where I am. Only one problem. It makes me want an iPhone even more now. I'll settle for this though.

I have the touch (purchased first) and I have an Iphone, I wouldn't buy another touch because it's hard to find wifi places unless I am specifically looking for it. I love on my iphone how I can just check my email or use all of my other internet based apps without worrying about having to run to a panera or starbucks to use it. I think it's good around the house but not outside of the home. I don't know how much you are paying for your cell phone but my husband and I have the att family plan and we spent about 180 a month including the 60 bucks for the data plans. Once you add up the individual plans, it's about the same actually the family plan is cheaper.

I have one that I received as a gift. I loaded a bunch of games on it - some for me and some for my daughter. We spend a lot of time waiting at doctor offices and it helps make the time go by faster and relieves some of the pre-visit stress for my daughter. I rarely use it for the wi-fi outside of my house or my parents' house because I can't seem to get it to pick up any locations. I like it also for my music.

There's a site - freeappaday.com that has free i-phone/i-touch apps for 24 hours at a time (1-3 per day). If you get the i-touch, check out that site to get some fun free apps.

I have an iPhone (thru work) and my hubby has the itouch. It does most of the things the iphone does, you just have to have wifi to do them. But he enjoys it, i think and it was a great alternative to us (because his cell is thru his company and we didn't want to pay the monthly charges for an "extra" phone).

My husband broke down and bought one for my son (after I prepared him that he would NOT be getting one because they are too expensive--haha!!) The whole family loves it. You can download a lot of free apps for it, and you can do some basic web surfing. Speak with the guy at the electronics dept at the store where you plan to buy it to give you advice on how many gigs to get depending on what you plan to store on it.

As an alternative try Microsoft's Zune HD. My daughter did NOT want an iTouch (she hates branding and doing what everyone else does) so she absolutely insisted on getting the Zune HD even though my husband kept trying to talk her out of it. And the Zune HD is fabulous! Plus, you aren't restricted to downloading just from iTunes. The only downside is that there are very few accessories for the Zune HD vs. the Apple products (docking stations, etc.).

I love my iTouch! I got it for the same reason as you. I didn't want to pay for the data plan. However as time passes (I've had it for a year) I'm finding that there are so many times I wish I had an iPhone. I was told when I was looking into it that we did not yet have 3G coverage in this area and service would not be that great. My brother had an iPhone and it was true he ended up switching back to Verizon and got a Blackberry. I think the 3G coverage has really expanded though. Sorry that's not what you were asking about so back to the iTouch. We spend a lot of time in the car so I just recently down loaded some videos for my daughter and it keeps her busy on those longer trips. I have all of my music on there and I heavily rely on the calendar and contacts. There are soooo many cool apps and games too. It's an awesome investment.
