I am trying to figure out what is going on with my hair and need help. My hair is VERY THICK and CURLY and I ALWAYS would lose a little when washing my hair but during pregnancy with my youngest son it was falling out so much and NOW It's even worse. My bathtub gets clogged up on a daily basis and i have to sweep the bathroom twice a day. I pull globs of hair out everytime i wash it and/or i brush it. I am scared I am going to lose my hair and it is so dry and brittle. My hair used to be so shiny and beautiful and full of life and now I Hate my hair.

****PLEASE HELP*****

What can I do next?

That happened to me too but not following the birth of my children. My hair started falling out just as you've described. I went to 2 doctors and both said it was because I was getting older. (I'm only 38)I suspected it had something to do with my changing my birth control from the pill to a copper IUD since it started falling out practically the same week I switched. I was having problems with my IUD so I had it removed and went back on the pill. My hair loss stopped overnight. I told my doctor and she said that was the first time she'd heard of that but as I researched it on the internet I learned its not as uncommon as she thought. It had something to do with estrogen. Too much/too little? I don't remember. Hope this helps.

I have similar hair and also experienced the same problem. I found out that I had a thyroid problem and hair loss is a symptom. After I was diagnosed I looked up the symptoms on the internet and realized I had all of these. Feeling tired, low tolerance to cold, dry skin and hair loss. I went on medication and my hair is back to normal as well as everything else. You might check with your doctor. Good luck.....

S., I don't know if you are taking any birth control but at one time I was on shots given quarterly (I cannot remember what they are called) and it made my hair fall out and my skin itch terribly. If you are on any kind of birth control that may be the cause - check with your doctor and good luck!

I too have very long thick curly hair. After my son was born, I was loosing it in handfuls every shower. The doctor said that your body holds your hair when pregnant. Once the baby is born, all that hair that has stayed on your scalp for 9 months releases itself. It can take awhile for it to stop. My doctor told me it can take 9 months and sometimes more. It took me about 7 months after the birth. I am also hypothyroid (from the first birth) but I have that taken care of with medication. If you continue to loose your hair, I would definitley call your doctor, but they will probably say the same thing. Good luck!

Be sure to have your thyroid checked, as I have the same problem and after pregnancy, my thyroid goes into hypothyroid mode. Good luck!!

Hi S.,
I just wanted to tell you that this is normal and it will stop eventually. I have three kids and with the first two this did not happen but, with the last (a boy) it did. Every time I ran my hand through my hair atleast five to ten strands would fall out. I thought something was really wrong because it did not happen with the other two. I went to the doctor and he assured me it was normal. It drove me crazy but it did stop after like 4-5 months. Don't worry, you will have your beautiful hair back soon.

That happened to me, too...especially after pregnancy. My doctor said it was normal, but you should probably go see your doctor to get a medical opinion. Pregnancy and motherhood do weird things to your body.

Hi my name is T. I have three beautiful children, and after each one my hair would fall out in huge clumps. I thought there was something wrong. But it eventually stopped falling out in clumps. I would suggest maybe trying a different shampoo and condtioner like Pantene, it worked wonders on my hair. And try limit your stress that will also cause your hair to fall out as well. If you have any questions try talking to your doctor to see what they think.

Sinceraly,
T. (mother of three and a s.a.h.m.)
