How to Rid Home Made Food of Pesticides?

I am thinking of making my own baby food, but I am concerned about the amount of pesticides that would be on, say, the skin of apples, potatoes etc.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the residual pesticide (after thoroughly washing, which I heard does not successfully remove the pesticide.) I would rather not have to remove the peels since that is where a good part of the nutrients are located.

Additionally, does anyone have any good recipes for first step baby foods?

Thanks!
T.

You have to buy organic. I make my own baby food and buy everything from Whole Foods. Some things like Banannas and Avocado always seem to be brown by the time I get it home (on the inside) so I just buy those from Publix. It really is best though to use organic banannas since the pesticides can seep through the skins. I use the book...Super Baby Food. It's awesome. My son is 8 months old and eats so many fruits and vegetables, brown rice, millet, oatmeal. We're just starting on nuts and seeds ground up in his cereal. It's great for their immunity.

My mom always washes her fresh produce in a sink full of Arm and Hammer baking soda. She buys big bags of it at Costco. When she uses it, she puts the drain in her sink, puts about a half of a cup of it into the water and then she washes her fruit. I think there are even instructions on the package. You could probably visit the Arm and Hammer website for more suggestions. It's a cheaper alternative and baking soda is notoriously wholesome.
A book recommended to me for baby recipes is "First Meals" by Anabelle Karmel; you can find it used on Amazon for under ten dollars.

Organic. Go organic and you won't have to worry about the pesticides.

There is a product in the grocery store (usually near produce) called Fit. It's a Fruit and Vegetable Wash that helps to remove the chemicals & wax. It is made from natural sources.
