How to Pamper Myself?

Hi Ladies!

Getting ready to head back to work after about 9 months of being a SAHM. I'm also 7 months pregnant and decided I will be pampering myself before returning to work :)

I know I am starting off with a prenatal massage (never had a massage!). Also considering a mani/pedi (also have only had one before my wedding day). Probably a haircut, maybe some highlights.

I'm quite inexperienced with the whole salon scene and physically pampering myself. What else, if anything, should I consider? What have you loved? Are any facials actually effective in brightening up my face or feel excellent? What do you reccommend, ladies?

What can I do next?

Good for you! Don't get a facial if you need to be seen in public after. After a facial I look like hell for the rest of the day but then after that I notice a difference. Same thing on any waxing (eyebrows, lip) - you can look pretty red afterward.

Getting ready to go back to work - I would focus my pampering on preparation for work. Get your eyebrows waxed, buy new work appropriate shoes. Difficult to clothes shop while pregnant, but you can shop for accessories, jewelry, hand bags, scarves. BUy yourself some new makeup and self tanner too.

Facials totally rock! The steam, exfoliation and extraction (if you need one), just peels the stress away!

If I'm on the go, a quick eyebrow/lip wax makes for a quick pick-me-up and is affordable too.

Can't say enough about pedis!!

ahhh... prenatal massages are to die for...

drink plenty of water before and after your massage. Where comfortable, loose fitting clothing and leave your jewelry at home. At the place I go to get massages (usually for a birthday gift or anniversary present)- they offer a parrafin treatment for your hands that is SO nice!

Definitely see if you can consult with one of the estheticians... (that is what they are called?) Generally they can suggest any treatments that would be especially nice for you. Be sure to tell them about any pregnancy issues you are having and when you get your massage, don't be shy about informing the massage therapist about any problem areas you would like to focus on.

Also, if I were you, depending on what you can afford... I would consider booking a postnatal massage about a month or two after your due date! I had one a month after having my second daughter and it made me feel like a new woman! I was exhausted and sore form the delivery, healing process and general "new motherhood" - plus left over pregnancy aches and pains... and a couple hours of pampering made a tremendous difference!

One of the things I like to do and you can do this in the privacy of your own home is too buy a nice sugar scrub (or salt scrub, but not if shaving). One you like that has a nice scent. The Body Shop makes has some nice ones and a go over my entire body-arms, legs, feet, middle, back...you get the idea. It gets rid of dead skin and my skin usually feels amazing! Also, tweezing or getting an eyebrow wax. Facials are usually nice too and you can give yourself one if you find a nice gentle scrub and mask to peel or have a salon done. Enjoy getting pampered...

I'm a hairstylist. I would recommend an eyebrow wax if you otherwise don't do your eyebrows. I know some facials are wonderful. The salon esthetician should be able to know what kind will work best with your skin type and pregnancy hormones. Have fun!

I reccoment holding off on the hair coloring since while preg the color may not take correctly. I highlighted my hair about 6 weeks after and the exact same product/stylist/application etc as before preggers and my light brown turned ORANGE! It does not happen to everyone, but enough people that I will caution against it. However, I LOVE mani/pedi get it once a month, massages, facials, waxing, exfoliating treatments, I would find out if your salon has a preggers package - I have seen it more and more at full service salons as it is getting more popular to still be "cute" while preggers.
