How to Get Back Some Motivation to Be Fit Under the Circumstances

Was really doing well a few months ago and was below my pregregnancy weight even. Then accidentally pregnant with #3 only to miscarry. Now I'm out of sync, unmotivated, and feeling blaaah! Any suggestions to get it back together? In reality I gained less than 5, but in photos if looks like 10! Usually all it takes is a fat photo to get my butt back in gear, but this time I just feel so defeated. I want to feel good about myself, but I don't want to work at it. How do I get out of this slump?

What can I do next?

A workout buddy, a class or get a trainer! Even if you cant afford one all the time it really motivates you to meet with someone even once a week. Last year I went through a rough patch and got a trainer. After 6 weeks I was totally fine on my own! I just needed that accountability for a kick start.I find when I'm in the groove I'm in it! But when out... well you know what they say about inertia? It applies to my butt as well.

With 10 minutes of exercise a few times a week. Start with a small baby step. Do 10 minutes next week. Then see if you can add another day of doing 10 minutes. Quickly, your body will say "give me more!"

baby yourself, hon. it's really okay. allow yourself to do 'not much', so long as it's something. 10 minutes of walking or some bicep curls or crunches during a few commercials may not be enough to get you fit again, but they WILL be enough to get your brain re-wired to start incorporating working out back into your lifestyle. give yourself permission to quit. but do not give yourself permission to do nothing.
also, don't use a fat photo. that's just negative reinforcement, and you sound a touch depressed already. give yourself positive talk. after your workout, however small it is, do something nice for yourself (that doesn't involve food as a reward of course<G>.) sometimes just putting on some bright red lipstick and giving your mirror image a kiss can give you a giggle and an emotional boost!
go do it, girlie!

Keep in mind you need the endorphins exercise produces to help you cope with everything. Whenever you can squeeze in me time either go for a brisk walk, or put in headphones and dance your butt off around the house. If however you are having any problems working through what you have been through take it to your doctor as you may need an assist.

so easy. just do it. make a diet and exercise plan and FORCE yourself to do it. THEN.... once you start seeing results, you'll WANT to do it.

Do you have a smart phone? Get the free app, "My fitness pal". It's a calorie counter but tracks all nutritional information and exercise. I don't count calories but the app really motivated me.

I just hit a record climb of 105 flights of stairs last week. I try to do at least 30 minutes of heart pumping cardio a day and one day of rest. Why? For my two little ones. I'm in my late 30s and I want to be able to run and be physically active with them as much as possible. I want to be around for my LOs a long time and a part of that is to stay healthy.

Also, I know this might be silly, but on days when I think about how much I hate all this exercise I think about what would happen if for some reason I had to run away with my LOs from some form of danger... would I be in shape enough to carry them for an extended period of time, etc?

Also, we as parents are suppose to set an example for our children and staying healthy is just one of they examples we should pass along - in my opinion =)

Sorry about your miscarry. I had a friend that just went through that with her #3 and her body did all sorts of crazy things. But you really ought to think about the ones you already have - they deserve for you to be the best you can be. Good Luck!

Can you "make it fun?" I used to kindof resent that my free time was spent on working out. Last year I let myself go, too. I was tired of always trying to hard and wanted to just have fun and do what I wanted. I ended up gaining a lot of weight and feeling quite yucky and tired all the time. This year I decided to get in shape again but I mostly just do things that are fun to me. For example:
-Hula hooping. You can get a weighted hoop, which actually makes hooping much easier, if you are a newbie, at most sports supply stores. I can feel a big change in my stomach after hooping just 10 minutes. If I dance around like a goon while hooping to music, I also work up a sweat and have a good time. I can do it while I watch tv, too.
-Biking. I am much more likely to go to the park now because it is super fast to get there and back. I have been biking to the park 4-5 days a week now. I have a bike trailer so I can pull my 4 year old. Going on a bike ride is something fun the whole family can do together. I have started venturing further, like biking to get groceries and hitting some nearby trails. I just started off small by going around the block daily but now I really look forward to my daily bike rides.
-Yoga. Love yoga. I love that people of all ages and skills are there. I really feel like I come out of there so refreshed. It is like a nap and fitness rolled into one, lol! It truly feels like "me" time, and it does help a lot with strength, flexibility, toning and burns calories.
-Zumba. Felt silly at first, now I am addicted. It is so fun. It is dancing, the music is loud and fun, everyone is happy. I bought a zumba game for the Xbox and it is quite good. In fact, it is just as good a workout as going to a class.
Anyway, I know it is hard to start off, but if you just start slow (a 10 minute walk, a bike ride around the block, one easy class, a quick round of pushups) then it is so much more pleasant and bearable. I try to do mostly what sounds fun and a little bit of "un-fun" like pushups or that stupid Jillian Michaels workout that I hate but gives good results. If it is mostly fun stuff and I only have to bear a few minutes of the un-fun, I stick with it and look forward to my workouts.
I am sorry to hear of your miscarriage. I hope you feel better soon!

Start simple. Get a pedometer so that you can really get a grasp of how many steps you are taking each day. I find that when I wear mine, if for example, it's says 9, 500 steps. It then makes me want to round it to 10,000 (which is about 5 miles) ... give or take.. Also, because you are feeling kinda blah.. do you take any type of Omega? I take Krill (dr. mercola brand) and I can definitely feel the difference when I do vs when I don't.. Also, it's the little things that add up. For instance, whenever you are standing take a moment and do 20 squats. I will do this when or if watching t.v. and when I get up, I just knock out 20... Also, try and use stairs instead of elevators. park farther away in parking lots (when safe to do so) this way, all those steps will add up..
If you can view this by your ADDING in good things as oppose to depriving yourself of anything, you'll do better..
I find that IF I don't look too far down the road in terms of some HUGE almost unattainable goal, I do much better. I try and take it day by day..
for me, this also means having healthy food in the house.. this way, when hungry , I don't blow it ..
take it little by little..
oh and if you can, keep a food/exercise journal .. whenever I do as such, WOW.. I do so much better.... it's my way of keeping on point and accountable, even if just to myself..

good luck.. you can do it!
