My daughter usually prefer to drink milk rather than to eat solid foods. She'll just taste the food once then refuse to be fed again. She prefer rice porridge. No cereals. Kindly share some techniques on how i can encourage her to eat more. Thanks.

So What Happened?

Hi! Thanks for the replies. She's just turned 1 last March 4. Actually we tried not to give her milk and tried to feed her cereals, but to no success. We'll try your tips. Thanks again so much.

I had this problem with my daughter and found by cutting back on the milk it helped it may sound cruel but it was a last resort. When she realised after a few days that she was getting hungry and the food was an option it didn't take long for her to start eating . I started to give her food with a small cup of milk and gradually cut the milk out all together it was hard and now my daughter will eat most things and isn't afraid to try things. Wish you lots of luck.

Just keep trying. Until the kids are 1, they get most of their nutrition from breastmilk or formula anyway. Keep introducing - and try to eat with her so she can see you and the rest of the family eat. Babies like to mimic so that might help! She'll get the hang of it soon enough! Good luck!

you can't get her to eat. You can offer her healthy, nutritious foods and she can decide if she's going to eat them or not. I think if you start down the path of trying to get her to eat you'll end up having major food battles. And I agree that if she's under a year she'll come around. The food thing takes time.

I mashed a lot foods for my son, like apples/pears, maets etc, so they were juicy and he gradualy started eating more.

How old is she? Up until they're relying on "food" for their nutrition, solids are mostly for practice of feeding, grasping, etc.
Depending on her age, you can try toast triangles with jelly, banana pieces or mashed, puffs, Cheerios, soft cooked cubed small veggies. Just keep offering stuff.
Also, she may be filling up too much on milk. Try offering some solids in between milks or before her milk.

How old is she? That's probably the most important information because different kids will have different reactions based upon their ages.

If she's old enough to be eating cereal, she's old enough to eat things like mashed bananas. It's possible it's the taste of the food or the preparation of it (if she's used to breast milk and you're making it with water, it may be an unfamiliar taste). We used to always flavor our cereal with 1/2 jar of baby food that our kids liked so they were more likely to eat it.

If she's under 7-8 months, be patient, she'll come around.
Good luck.

Don't even set milk on her plate. Give her solids first. Just like adults, kids are more likely to try new things if they are REALLY hungry. If you give her milk first, that will fill her belly up a little and she won't be as willing to try new things.
Good Luck!
