Hooorah, a New Vacuum!

I am looking to buy a new vacuum, my sorry excuse for a vacuum finally quit. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have a toddler and a golden retriever dog, so there are messes and hair that need to be picked up. Also, I have a two story house that I have to haul the vacuum up and down. So something powerful but not to cumbersome or heavy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have a blessed day.

What can I do next?

I have a yellow lab who sheds like crazy ! We got the Dyson Animal. You don't have to worry about bags. All the dirt & hair goes right to the cylinder that you empty after each vacuum. This is by far the best vacuum I have ever owned.

I have been with my husband for 7 years. In the first four years together we went through 9 different vacuums because they burnt up. Everyone kept saying that it was because the bag was too full or I hadn't emptied the canister. But I was replacing and dumping the canister. When we had our now 3 1/2 year old we purchased a dyson. It was the best thing I could have bought. It is a little heavy but they have lighter ones now. It is amazing to me the amount of stuff it picks up. I can honestly say that I haven't had any problems with my vacuum in the past 3 1/2 years. I haven't had to spend any extra money on it. I clean the filters regularly and I keep it emptied. I sent in all of my warrenty information and I did call one time because I thought I had a problem she was very nice on the phone and told me exactly what was wrong and how I could fix it. Most places won't tell you what is wrong they will tell you to bring it in so they can service it and then charge you for it.

Good Luck

Hi T.,

I would recommend an Oreck vacuum. We had two Hoover Windtunnels years ago and I would not recommend them. When the last one died, my cleaning people said that Oreck was the best... And it is! We have three kids and a rottie that lives inside full time and it does a great job of cleaning up after them... We also have three stories and it is super light to carry from floor to floor... There are many models, I have the one that will do both carpet and hardwoods. Check with your Oreck store b/c they may have some specials you can take advantage of- mine gave me $100 off for bringing in my old vacuum even though it didn't work. They will also let you pay in monthly installments without charging interest. Another perk is if you bring it back annually for a check up, they will give you a 21 year warranty. (but you have to bring it by and have it tuned up (which is free). I have had mine for a year now and two of my neighbors bought Orecks and love them as well. Good Luck!

Any Miele vacuum cleaner. They are expensive but they do a GREAT job! Recommended for people with asthma, allergies, pet owners etc.(I have a cat!!) They have a pretty big selection. Go on line to find a retailer in your area. European quality! ;-))
They are not to heavy.
I had one when I was living in France and I miss it. We bought an up-right one when we moved to the States and I HATE it.
Also , try to avoid the bag free vacuum cleaners. They sound cool but they are just a mess.
I hope it helps.

I love my Oreck!!!!!!!! I have 2 kids and 2 long hair dogs. I think it works great. Yes, bags are a little pricy and you do need to have it serviced every year (first 3 are free and then only $34) My mother in law got one and went to England for a month so I borrowed hers. I loved it so much I had a hard time giving it back so I asked my husband for one for Christmas. Yes, I asked for an appliance for a gift. Women all over the world are going to shoot me, but I don't care. I have had it for almost two years and still love it. Other than my engagement ring, it is the best gift he ever gave me.

oreck. they are light (only 8 lbs), and they have great service policies...they'll service it for you once a year for free for about 8 years or something...also, they have lots to choose from that will eliminate pet dander, etc...and they usually give you a hand held one with attatchments when you buy a vaccum...they always have some kind of thing going on...i've had one for years...i'm on my second one now...and i love it. (and i don't work for them! haha)

Gosh, I hesitate because another mom was unhappy with hers, but I loved my Oreck. It was a older model (at least 8 years ago). The suction was awesome as long as I kept the bag changed and the service in the stores was really good too. I hated everything else I had.

I installed a central vac in my rennovated home (Cumming Vaccuum Store) and am so thrilled I can hardly stand it. If you have a $1000, the central is definately incredible, and even more incredible if you have any allergies. J

Definitely Oreck-I've had my older model for 11 years now, and it still works great-we keep that one upstairs and bought a second pink one for the upstairs. The service is great and you can find an Oreck store almost anywhere. Quick service, too, if you need to leave it for check-ups or service.

I highly recommend a Dyson. They are pricy and this held me back from purchasing one for a long time but I finally found one on clearance and it just happened to be one for a house with pets (we have a long haired cat) so I decided to give it a try. It is the best vacuum I have ever owned and will never purchase another brand. I can not beleive how much better this picks up than my last vacuum. Amazing!!!

Hi
I have the dyson animal vacuum which is pricy but I am really happy with it. It is easy to use and easy to dump the dirt. I vacuum up hairballs all the time but we only have one cat. It is not the lightest vacuum to bring up and down but I deal with it or make my husband carry it LOL. We mainly keep it on the main floor so I don't haul it up and down alot. Good Luck

Don't get an oreck! I currently own one and I wish I had something else. It is very light and easy to carry up the stairs, but the suction power is not that great and it is expensive to own. With an oreck you have to buy custom oreck bags (the cheap ones that are suppose to fit don't) which are very pricey and I go through them quickly. Then you are suppose to take the vacuum in for a check up every once in a while. If you do all that they will work pretty good, but why not just buy something more simple. Many of my friends own Dyson Animals and love them so I would recommend that.
