Help with Potty Training When Away from Home

You can bring the potty along though!

I have a potty, clorox wipes, puppy pads and plastic grocery bags in a bag in the back of my small suv. When my daughter says she needs to go I can pull the car over, line the potty with a puppy pad (I cut them in thirds), let her go, lift out the pad and put it in the grocery bag and toss it. Wipe out the potty and you are good to go. The pads have been a life-saver! No muss, no fuss. They soak up urine great and catch any solids so I don't have to touch or deal with a mess while we are on the go.

When my daughter was potty training I kept a portable potty in the trunk of the car. Public restrooms can be so nasty anyway, especially for little girls. I used the Potette Plus portable potty/trainer seat. I also kept a roll of 4 gallon trash bags (as liners) and a package of wipes in the trunk and we were good to go anywhere. You can set it up as a portable potty or you can fold the handles/legs out to use it as a trainer on top of a regular toilet.

Introduce him to the "big boy potty" ie. the toilet! Once he's used to going on the toilet, he'll be fine with any toilet. They have toilet seats that are a perfect fit for little bottoms in Walmart you can purchase. Also in Toys R Us or Babies R Us, there's the carry along seat that folds up and fits into your purse that you can take outside the home. I have girls and this has been great in helping them potty on public toilet.

I love love hearing stories of such young kids potty trained or well on their way! I work closely with parents in my home childcare to accomplish this around the second birthday mark...some before, some a bit after.

I would start working with him on other potty's...big toilets. If hes well established when he is at home to go in his potty seat, the transition shouldn't be too hard? In my home daycare, I don't encourage a potty chair, but push for the real toilet as soon as possible, for this exact reason (also, I hate the germiness of potty chairs..even tho I finally have one I LOVE that is easy to clean, no leaking, etc..with the possibility of multiple kids using it, its much more difficult than the real toilet to maintain).

Actually, I would. If you drive a mini van or suv, he could use it in the back of the vehicle.
