My daughter is in 4th grade and is struggling with math. She just needs a little extra help. Does anyone have any suggestions on computer games, websites, books anything. We've done a little googling but not finding the right one that she clicks with. Anything that you may have tried to give your child an extra boost. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. THANKS

Thank you to everyone for their help. I have gone to all the web sites and bought afew more materials and new software. I feel we are on the right track and I thank you again for pointing us in a good direction. Hopefully we can bring that grade up. I'll let you know around report card time.

Hi J.,
I am an engineer and tutor sudents (middle school through second year Calculas college students) in Math to keep my skills sharp. What is she doing in math? What is causing her most of the problem? Does she understand word problems? Is she having difficulty understanding what the problem is asking or how to solve the problem?

In hillsborough county they have these family resource centers. I saw on their calender the other day that they offer tutoring for K-8th. All there services are free for hillsborough families.
It is at least an option. I was happy to see that they offered those services. My son has struggled in the past and the cost of getting him a tutor was going to be too much. We managed, but now that I know of the service if I need it in the future I will use it.
Hope this helps.

Hi! There is a free online game called Timez Attack that builds skills with the times tables. Kids really like it because it is an actual video game; their progression through the game is based on their improvement with the math. Just a note though: if you have a Mac it will not work (last time we checked anyway). I know they are working on making a Mac-friendly version though.
As far as books go, there is a cute series based around the Arthurian legends - one of the titles is Sir Cumference and the Knights of the Round Table (or something like that). I know there are several books by the same author and they are very kid friendly. The only one I have used with my son is the one I mentioned and he loved it.
How Much is a Million? by Steven Kellogg also held great interest for my son. There is also If You Made a Million which covers money. Good Luck!

Does her school have the Study Island program? This is a great resourse. She can do it at home online and at school. I teach at Cypress, and our students use this to prepare for FCAT. It covers everything they need to know.

JumpStart Math and/or Reader Rabbit Math are excellent children's educational software. The child has fun while not even realizing he/she is learning valuable math skills.

Good luck. D.

http://www.bigbrainz.com/Download.html This is called Timez Attack. I don't know about fourth grade, if she is struggling with multiplication, but this is a game that really helped my son last year. He is in gifted program and was in the 4th grade last year. It is fun too!

Have you tried the LeapFrog? You can buy different books as far as math, reading and english and they have them at different age and grade levels.
