Help!!! Teething?

It does sound like he's teething, and the medicines could be adding to it. Some say that it's really early for him to be teething, but my daughter was 4 months old when she got her first tooth and still breast feeding. I would try baby oragel and massage that into his gums, or these teething tablet. Maybe even popsicles that will soothe his gums and get some fluids into him. I used the tablet beacause it's easier to administer and no fear of getting bit! And if that helps I would go ahead and try giving him pedialite, or something for dehydration. Good luck!

Try pedialyte popcycles. They work wonders as they sooth his teeth and keep him hydrated. Also try baby oralgel with a qtip on his gums then he may take the bottle.

When my son was on a bunch of meds about 2 months ago, I started mixing it all in his bottle and he did the exact same thing. He would start to take it then spit it out and this went on for about a day and a half before i realized that it was the meds. So i had to give him a couple orally and then find the best tasting one (unfortunatly) and put it in his bottle! You might try this. Also, if you are afraid he is getting dehydrated, try pedialyte. My son would take a little bit of that instead of his bottle. My peds said he didn't care what fluid i gave him as long as it was something. Honestly, I would dry a Sippy cup with a soft spout, such as Nuby, Avent or Gerber. Your son sounds like he's teething to me, though. They have these teething pills at Wal-Mart and other drug stores and they work wonders! They're all natural, and the brand name is Hyland's. They also make many other homeopathic (Natural) items that work very well. Also, you can increase his fluid intake by giving him cereal with juice or formula added. Most babies like it better with juice, though, because it's sweet. Good luck!

How does he do spoon fed? Try giving him some fruit (baby food) by spoon to give him some fluids. The pressure from sucking his bottle may be h*** o* his sinus'. If he's not feeling well, his maddness may just be his frustration over how he feels. Just continue to offer him the bottle, give him a cold wet wash-cloth to teeth on and comfort him as best you can. Once he starts to feel better, I'm sure he'll go back to his bottle.

you could try putting sugar water on the end of the bottle, it might get him to latch on (that's what we did with my son for a while). maybe not allow him his pacies... it'll force him towards him bottle. good luck!

Get him some teething toys. Orajel works good, I always get the cherry flavored and they also have teething pacifiers, usually at Wal-mart. I got my son some and he loved them. Also make sure the bottle is warm enough. We still have to put his regular milk in the microwave for a minute and he's 16 months old! Also, if a baby's sick they won't want to eat a whole lot. It's okay, but don't let him starve, and make sure he's having 5-8 wet diapers a day. Hope this helped. Good Luck.

It sounds like teething for the most part, but when you said he was on antibiotics, it also made me think it could be thrush. Has your doctor seen your baby? I think you should call and insist that he see him and check for thrush. That's like a yeast infection in the baby's mouth and is painful, it can cause them to not want to eat. As long as he is having some wet diapers, he should be okay. It could also be teething, though. I've found that rubbing Infant Tylenol on the Baby's gums helps take away some of the pain. It seems to kick in faster than giving it to them directly. Try that and then wait about 15 minutes and try the bottle. Not sure if these will work, just suggestions, but worth a try.

ask your doctor about Gerd (heart burn)i know that can make babies really uncomfortable and not want to eat. b/c they associate eating with pain. also this may sound mean but dont give in to the paci... try to make him want the bottle and last he may be done with the bottle all together altho that is really young... try a soft nipple sippy... good luck!

teething can definitely make a baby fussy and lose their appetitie some. but sounds to me his appetitite loss is due more from being sick. my daughter just got over an infection and she wasn't too interested in eating either. if he doesn't want formula at least try giving him water or pedialyte to keep him hydrated...if he doesn't want a bottle...just give 10-15 drops every 15 min out a medicine dropper. as for the teething, try some baby orajel, or i like the homeopathic teething tablets( they have them at wal-mart) they dissolve instantly and really help to sooth a fussy munchkin. also try letting him gnaw on chilled teether toys, or even a wet wash cloth, or a rubber tipped baby spoon. all have helped me with my little one when she was cutting a new tooth.

It may be teething, but it may just be b/c he's not feeling well. Another thought... could be an ear infection. Are you sure the bottle isn't getting clogged up with formula? That really makes my daughter mad! I would go see a different doctor if your doctor isn't trustworthy.

I don't know how much this might helped but here you go. If he is on cough meds then maybe he has a really bad sore throat and that is causing him not to want to suck on the bottle. Try in small amounts drizzling warm water from a cup that was he doesn't have to suck on anything I did this with my babies and it worked, it also helped the transition from bottle to sippy go really smooth. My children are 3,6,and almost 10. My 6 year old was done with the bottle when he was about 8 months and got his first tooth around that time also, my 3 year old was a little older due to some medical problems and she is the last child we will have so I tried to keep her a baby longer than needed. If your Dr isn't that much of a help then I would try to find a different Dr especially if his diapers aren't as wet as they should be your Dr should be able to help you find a solution.

I am not sure if he is teething or not being a first time parent myself but try giving him teethers and hurricane gel. The hurricane gel is like oragel but a lot better but it might make your child sleepy. You have to ask the pharmacist for it and don't get cherry flavor and wash your hands really good after applying it or it will make your mouth really numb too. I hope this helps!!

Is your baby eating jar food yet? I found that when my little guy starting teething he would sometimes do better with the jar food as opposed to the bottle. It helped knowing that he was getting something in his tummy. Just keep offering him the bottle, and he'll eventually take it when he is ready. If he is hungry, he will eat. Keep trying pedialite as well, because that will help with the dehydration, even if he is only taking a little bit at a time before pushing it away. As for being more clingy... He doesn't feel well, and mommy makes him feel better - bottom line. My little guy is the same way. He is still teething, and he always gets the congestion and cough about a week or two before another tooth comes in. He clings more as the congestion comes on more... It is a trying time, especially when they look at you like, "Mommy, why aren't you making me feel better?" The communication barrier is such a challenge for me sometimes because I just want to know what to do to make my little guy feel well again... Just keep offering that bottle, and I promise that when he's ready he will take it... Good luck!!!

I've found (and read a lot in those parenting magazines and such) that if you put something flavorful on the nipple he might drink better. I used to dip my baby brother's nipple in root beer when he acted that way. It was very sweet and he would drink it much better. I've read a lot of other tips saying to do something similar. Hope that helps, at least a little.

Have you thought about getting him rechecked this sound like it could be something different. 1. Ear infection-yes they can get these while on antibiotices
2. Thrush
3. Sore throat

If the diapers amount has changed you need to get him rechecked.
