HELP! Sleeping Issues!

OK I wasnt sure where to post this so hopefully it gets read! I have 2 boys ages 9 and almost 5. They share a room so a year ago or so I bought a bunk bed. My oldest has GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and didnt like the bunk bed idea (didnt want to be on top but not on bottom either in fear that the top would collapse) so i took the beds apart and set them up seperate. (Before the bunk beds they shared a full size bed but was just too big, took up the whole room). My youngest didnt have a problem sleeping in his own bed but my oldest wanted to sleep next to his brother so they always end up making a pallet on the floor! I want them to sleep in a bed but the room isnt big so getting another full size isnt going to work. They need play space which they barely have now! HELP! Any ideas? I thought about maybe getting one of the new microfiber futons (they are on a wooden frame I think) so that they can have a sitting area when its into a couch then it can be easily folded out to a bed (or at least better than the floor) but my mom keeps saying its a waste of money. Have any of you had this problem? Thanks in advance!!

What can I do next?

I haven't had this problem, but do you know what is the root of his wanting to sleep with his brother? Does he want to keep his brother safe? Is he scared himself? Is it because that's what he's used to? Does he need his brother next to him or something to make him feel secure?

I would talk with him a bit and find out. If it's just that he wants something to make him feel secure, what about making a "brother" pillow buddy (doll?) or something like that? :) He could help you make it. I have not made one, just thought of it now. lol I would supposed that you could make one out of a pillowcase and stuffing or pillow and decorate it with fabric markers and a face and maybe even put some of younger brother's old pajamas on it. lol

I would get a trundle bed. They have so many choices now and you can get a great one for not a lot of money!

I had a trunnel bed when I was a kid. It didn't collapse like the one Heather talked about. It was a twin bed with a twin sized drawer below. It pulls out easily and they would still be sleeping close together. The collapsing one might scare your son like the bunk did. Good luck.

What about a trundle bed. In case you do not know, it is a bed (twin size) that is on a frame that collapses underneath the main twin bed. It can be raised or slept on at floor level.

My sister and I shared a room when we were young and that is what we had. Anyway, lots of the time, we did not "pull out" the trundle however it is always there for use.

If you put trundle into google, you will be able to geta better idea of what I am talking about.

Hope that helps,
H.

PS I love the pillow brother idea.

Oh yes, the trundle bed is the perfect solution.

My sister and I had our own rooms, but we always wanted to sleep in the same room, so we would make a pallet on the floor too.

My parents got us a trundle bed and it was perfect. We never had any problems with it, and it is easier in my opinion to put away than a futon. And nice futons are quite expensive, the other cheaper ones will only get torn up and give the kids a sore back.
