Hi! My son will be 4 in January. He has a speech problem, but is getting help.
We have a problem with him hitting. He does it for no reason to anyone! We were in the store the other day and he just walked right up to a little boy and punched him right in the stomach. I don't know if he thinks he's playing or what, but we get on to him. He is hitting to kids at day care and today started pulling on a baby's leg. We hve tried spanking, putting him in the corner, and taking things away from him. His daycare puts him in the corner when he acts up too. I don't know what to do. He's been doing this for about a year now. He had gotten better, but we just moved about 2 1/2 months ago and he's starting it again. I don't know what else to do. I'm afraid they are going to kick him out of day care and I'm really afraid he's going to really hurt someone! HELP!! I don't know what else to do!

What can I do next?

There is no one perfect cure for things like this but this worked for my kids. If they bite...bit them back....if they pull hair..pull their hair. it completly cured my 2 yr old the first time. That was it. My son didn't "hit" but he liked to throw things at people. Spanking only made it worse...time out..well i guess his energy and anger built up while he was sitting...much worse!!!

One day we were at my brothers and our boys are the same age...My son Dakota threw a book and nearly took Aden's eye out...that was it. We had Aden to pick a toy(we kind of helped him) it was a small toy car but it was made of metal. We had him to throw it at Dakota....I stood around the corner and cried my eyes out but the little car hit him in the back of the head and when he started to cry we explained very calmly that he makes people hurt like that everytime he throws something. That was the last time.

I know that more often than not it hurt mom more than the kid to use tough love but it almost always works. It truly broke my heart to intentionally let someone hurt him but it worked and he never seriously injured anyone.

Hi A., It sounds as though he is frustrated with people or other kids not understanding him. I am betting help with speech will help.

I wish I had some advice for you, but unfortunately I'm in the same boat you are. My 3 year old little girl is doing the same thing. But we are thinking maybe she has been acting out due to the fact she has two new twin sisters that are getting some of the attention she used to get. Hopefully, someone else will respond to your request and give both of us some ideas on what to do. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone, that there is someone else out there that knows what you are going through.

Any move makes kids act up. They feel insecure and this is the only way they know how to show it. Give hime time, get back into your normal routine. If there is a park near your house make it a priviledge he only gets if he does not hit anyone and then follow through on taking him. Mine was a biter and this worked miracles. We moved three months ago and he started acting out again but as soon as we got back into the routine he has settled back down.
