I don't know of any easy way to say this, and I am extremely embarrased to be asking this, but we had an unauthorized debit from our checking account and while the bank is taking care of it, they said it could take 7-14 days to get it reversed. Our problem is, it put us in the hole- really bad. I now have NO money to get diapers (which we are just about out of), food, or anything. Does anyone know where I can get some help with this? I hate doing this, but without any money, I don't know how I'm supposed to get these things. This hasn't ever happened before, we normally do ok, but I'm at a loss right now. My baby needs the diapers and even if I just cook for the kids, I will run out of food by the beginning of next week. We have already asked our families for help, but they live 3 hrs away and can't do much. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate them. If it helps, we live in Addison. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all your suggestions. I was able to sell a few things and that helped a bit, but we'll get through this.

Hi A.,

Have you tried WIC? I believe they have several different locations. I know they don't provide diapers. For diapers you may want to try a crisis pregnancy center. I know that sounds odd but when my husband was unemployed WIC told me to go there.

Hi there-

I am so sorry to hear this. What an awful situation for you to be going through. Another Mom posted some thoughts about food banks, etc. In doing a quick search online, it looks like you can go to a local food bank and pick up the items that you need without question but if it's an on-going need, that you will have to qualify. Here are some links:

Additionally, you might contact your local government in Addison for some support. Ask to speak with a Social Worker or a member of Health & Human Services. If they can't help you, they can direct you to someone who can.

I wish I could help you. My resources are very little at this time as well. Is there a possibility that you could drive home (since you are a SAHM) and stay with a member of your family until you get back on your feet and have money for food, diapers, etc.?

Good luck. I hope that someone, who is able to help, comes forward.

www.freecycle.org is a GREAT place to start. Your hometown probably has a group, and people post free offers all the time. You can also find homes for some things you need to get rid of. You can let people know you need some help with food, diapers, etc. and they may be able to help you.

I LOVE Freecycle so much, I started our local group!

They buy items that you no longer need from you. Do you hav clothes that are outgrown or baby items or toys that you no longer need? You could take them to Once Upon A Child - this will get you a few bucks at least.

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. I'd offer help but we're tight in the budget departement as well. I'm waitressing 4 eveings a week to make ends meet. A hard job but instant cash! Could you start waitressing in the evenings when your husband is home for a while? Gets you out of the house, most places can start you quickly. I'm working for a restaurant where business is SLOW right now and I'm still earning at least $15 per hour. I go home with $50-75 each night (that's not including the hourly wages), which is nothing compared to other restaurants.

Good luck to you!

First, can you talk with a manager or someone higher up at the bank to see if they can expedite this. Then maybe try a local food bank. They may have food and diapers for you to get you through. Or if you belong to a church they may be able to help as well.

One last thing is maybe your family can wire tranfer money into your bank account.
