Have Dry Skin, Need a New soap...any Suggestions?

In the last two weeks I've gotten very dry flakey skin all over my body. It's so bad that yesterday my arms were dropping flakes on my dark capris! Gross!!!! I am wondering if I have a vitamin problem or if it's from medications? Haven't a clue! I've been using the same body wash for 3 years with no problems. I guess I need to change soaps, but trying different brands is bewildering (too many choices!) and expensive. Does anyone have a body wash that works well on dry skin that they like? Or perhaps some bath treatment?
Thanks!

Oh...P.S. I can't stand the "coatedfeeling" of lotions on my skin, so please don't suggest those.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi All- I went wth the majority and bought some Dove body wash. It worked! Dove smells great, no coated feeling, and the flaking is almost gone. Also got some Aveeno lotion and like that real well for my hands.

Thanks for the help moms!

Aveeno products are affordable and it really is dermatologist recommended...it doesn't just say it on the bottle!

I went in a couple of weeks ago because I have a crazy dry, itchy patch on my right shin and the doctor recommended Aveeno body wash and shaving cream as well as Eucerin calming cream (it's really thick and creamy but not greasy) and Eucerin calming body oil / wash.

I had PUPPP (a rare but harmless rash) when I was pregnant and the only thing that helped was Aveeno oatmeal bath.

Stay hydrated and good luck!

Skin issues usually are systemic meaning they come from the inside out so the vitamin deficiency or something from a medication would be a good guess. I use the Gold Bar from Melaleuca. It contains a high grade tea tree oil that is healing as well as being a glycerin bar vs soap. I can't live without it!

A good absorbable multivitamin will help. I'll be glad to recommend one if you like. Let me know!

I hate the coated feeling of lotions as well and I think that baby lotions dont give you that feeling. I also recommend Coconut oil it moiusturizes you skin without that greasy feeling. If you use it at night it really helps. There is a body scrub that I would recommend as well, called la la liscious that stuff is awesome. Use a scrubevery couple of days and maybe the coconut oil at night and you will have the softest juciest skin ever. Without the coated feeling.

I think you should be sure to exfoliate for one thing. Even if it's just with a wash rag in the shower. Many body washes have exfoliants and moisturizers.
I like Olay body wash.
They also have spray moisturizers that kind of mist the skin without that heavy feeling.
My daughter got me some stuff at Bath and Body works and it was divine. Not heavy or coat-y feeling at all.
Maybe you can try some sample or travel sizes of things and find one you like that way without spending too much. Many places allow you to test the lotions and cremes.

I hope you find something you like.

If you like baths, you can sprinkle some epsom salts in the water and have a nice soak. It feels really good, helps get rid of the old layer of dry skin and doesn't over dry you afterwards.

We use cetaphil soap. It doesn't leave a residue, stops dry skin, and clears up any blemishes.

Sensaria Natural Bodycare is the way to go as the whole family can use it, there are no sodium laurel sulfates, no petroleums, no dyes, which means no itchy skin, no greasy /coated feeling, and it actually works AND there is a one-year guarantee on the product. Great for people that have allergies or are senstitive to most things on the market!

You need to exfoliate your skin which is as simple as using a wash cloth and the Sensaria Body Wash (Mango, Green Tea, Cherry Almond, Rosemary Mint - all essential oils and plant extracts for the scents so they smell like the real thing with no sneezing) and scrubing the body. Then applying lotion that does not contain any petroleum (which most of the brands listed already do contain) for that soaked in and not greasy feeling.

I offer a first time customer discount too so contact me if you would like more information on this.

I love the triple moisture shower cream from Bath & Body Works. It is fantastic! I started using it when I was on a medication that really dried out my skin, and I like it so much that even after stopping the medication I still use it.

You should get your thyroid levels checked. One of the indicators of thyroid mal-function is extremely dry skin. Something to consider, anyway. Good luck!

Dove hands down. It does not dry out your skin. I use the cucumber sented bar and the Dove Visible Care body wash. Aveno is great as well.

I would recommend Dove bar, or Aveeno with oatmeal. Oatmeal is really good for your skin. To hydrate your skin after shower, you can try Aveeno's lotions or baby oil.

I love Mary Kay's body washes. They cost a bit more, but seem to last longer. The best part is if you don't like it, you can exchange or return it. (I also like the matching lotions, and I don't notice a "coated feeling" like I do with other lotions).

To find a consultant, go to marykay.com and put in your zip. It'll direct you to a great consultant.

try putting 1 ounce of jojoba oil in a new bottle of your regular body wash. I use it for so much! Including
1. In my conditioner
2. In my shampoo
3. In my body wash
4. As a spot treatment for my dry hands
5. To keep my stretched ear piercings nice and soft
6. In my favorite lotions (use less than an ounce)

Its about 5$ at the GNC for once ounce, and with all the uses i put above, I usually buy 3 bottles. You'd only need one :D Go to google and look at all the different uses!
Also, Emu oil is similar. I just personally prefer Jojoba.

I totally understand that coated feeling. Until I started using Bath and body works lotion. You only have that feeling for a minute, then it goes away. Soaks right in and your skin just feels soft. I like the Mentha Body with vitamins. It's like a wake up call. If feels pretty good after a hot shower. Nice and tingly that you wont even notice the lotion feel.

I would first exfoliate your skin to get the gross skin off. Try adding sugar to your bodywash. That is what I do instead of buying the expensive sugar scrubs. Works just as well. Then I would just try a lotion. I have found that putting it on after a bath lessens that coated feeling. Try the Mentha Lotion. Super nice.
Then I really like Method hand soaps. Super gently and smells amazing.

I found Olay body wash to be very moisturizing. I use Dove (bar) and a bathing poof (I don't know what else to call those things). Also, moisturize while you're still wet or within a couple minutes of drying off.
I don't like most lotions for the same reason you mentioned, that "coated" feeling. My old favorite was Lubriderm and my new favorite is Jergens Ultra Healing. Both good but may not be heavy enough for skin that wants to flake off. You may want to seek medical advice. Your problem may be deeper than skin deep.

It's the weather. I've had terrible skin my whole life and mine has been acting up recently too. Dove is the best choice for bathing/showering. But you probably need to moisturize too. I used Lubriderm for years, but it doesn't work in this weather--you need a cream. If you feel coated after putting lotion on, then it is not actually penetrating your skin and you need to use something else. Don't go cheap, but don't get sucked into the MLM schemes either. I use Burts Bees when the humidity is higher, and bath and body works cream (not lotion) works well when it is really dry--but you might be sensitive to fragrance. Also, a water softener would make a difference too (if that's a possibilty in your budget).
