Hey - my friend says to use aloe - right from the plant. Also, did you know there are food triggers for eczema. In my son's case, the best way to deal with the eczema was to avoid the food triggers. I recently wrote about it on my blog - TheMommyhood.com. Here's a link if you are interested.

Have a good one!

On 'The Doctors' yesterday they recommended Head and Shoulders shampoo. I have not tried it yet, but plan to. They said it worked for eczema and yeast infections of the skin.

Our dermatologist told us to use Dove Sensitive Body wash. I saw that a couple of people put Aveeno but she said that Aveeno can still be irritating and the Dove is much better.
For lotion, we were prescribed something called VaniCream. We used to use Aquaphor but she said this stuff is just as good but not so greasy. We use it every day so having something not as greasy is nice.
Finally, my son (11months) was also prescribed a steriod oil to clear up any bad outbreaks. It is safe to use all over the body unlike some of the lotions that you can't use on the neck and face.
If you have not already, see a dermatologist. Our dermatologist helped us so much more than our family doc. Good luck.

Dove and CeraVe. Dove makes a fragrance/dye free bar that I use (I have SEVERE eczema). CeraVe creme (in the tub) is the only lotion that doesn't irritate my skin... and I think I've tried every lotion! It's also not very greasy, which is a nice plus. Both of these are fine for kids skin, too. I use them on my kids because I can't touch other soaps or lotions without irritating my own skin.

Any baby soap that is unscented is generally good so it doesn't aggravate the eczema.

Our daughter was diagnosed before her 1st birthday, and she was advised, by the dermatologist, to use Vanicream lotion or Aquaphor. Vanicream absorbs more easily. It is OTC, but you may have to ask the pharmacy to order it in for you. A large tub costs ~$10. Aquaphor is simply greasy but very good and very safe.

I highly recommend a consult with a dermatologist because all eczema is not created equally, and Rx medications may be required based upon the pathology of the condition.

Handmade soap, and a cream lotion. But find the root of the problem, eczema isn't a skin disorder, it lives in the colon and is a fungus that presents itself on the skin. You need to cure it from the inside out and not just mask the symptoms.

I can only use Dove soaps and Eucerin or CeraVe lotions. I've tried about every lotion out there, and these are the only two I've found that don't make the ezcema worse!

My son at about 4 months had horrible eczema and I was told by a family friend to use goat milk soap ... i thought eww gross but it did not stink and it worked great!!! His skin improved almost immediately after we started to use the goat milk soap. I also applied NIVEA lotion (in a little white container) instead of regular baby lotion, etc. We have not had a problem with his skin since then.

My son has eczema and it gets really bad in the winter.

Our pediatrician recommended:
- Especially in the winter, if he's not "dirty"- take a bath every-other-night to avoid drying out the skin
- Use non-scented and hypoallergenic products like Method Baby, Aveeno Baby and Eucerin
- When his skin is bad, the doctor has given us a prescription lotion that has a steroid in it to reduce the inflamation
- We lotion his arms, legs and face every night with Aveeno Baby during the mild months and with the Eucerin in the dry months (it's the consistency of vaseline, but it works)
- Keep nails cut short
- Keep an eye on the scalp b/c these kids are prone to cradle cap (which can continue throughout childhood)

I like Bath and Body Works Too Shea for my eczema. It's 100% shea butter and nothing else. No scents, no additives, nothing but pure shea. It's expensive but a little goes a long way.

This is by far the best (and safest) soap for eczema: Look, No X-E-Ma! by Four Elements Herbals - available at Whole Foods and online.

Our review of this product is here: http://ecosafereviews.blogspot.com/2010/01/pregnancy-soap...

As for creams, have you tried Nature's Baby moisturizer? It is very safe and effective.

My son's dermatologist always recommends Dove, Dial or Aveeno. Anything scent free is best. Ivory is extremely harsh. Aveeno has an eczema lotion/creme, too.

aquafor is really good but it is more like vaseline. If it is really bad you will have to get a prescription for it to really go away.

Cetaphil soap (liquid) and cream (in tub) are awesome. For bad flare ups Aquaphor is also really good. Right after bathtime, just LATHER THEM in it!! Also don't bathe too often... All can be found at Target, Wal Mart, Walgreens etc.

I use all natural products, but to help your eczema there are vitamins and herbs that can help and possibly certain foods to avoid.

Aquaphor makes a baby wash that is really gentle. Also, CeraVe is a really nice cream that comes in a big tub and goes a long way. I would ask the dermatologist though, for recommendations or to confirm what you want to use.
