Hi Moms,

I would like to know if any of you have tried Invisilign treatment option for straightening of teeth. If you have would you please share your experience, how effective you think it is, how much time it takes (I know it would depend on an individual, but still in general), if you had any problem during the treatment. Also, if you think its cost effective or not. Any other advise that you think would help me in making a decisison about going for the treatment.

Thanks a lot ladies!

I worked for an orthodontist for many years & I can tell you that traditional braces just have a better outcome than Invisalign (in my opinion). They do make clear brackets for traditional braces which aren't nearly as noticable as the silver metal. It also depends on what needs to be done. If they have to correct your bite, then you will have to wear rubber bands & you can't so that with Invs. Anyway, good luck no matter what you decide!

Loved it! I had traditional braces as a teenager, and did invisalign as an adult (to tweak some moving over the years caused by crowns.)

Not everyone can use it because your misalignment has to be within certain parameters. But if you qualify, then definitely choose it over traditional braces. Good luck!

I think you should be very careful who you choose to do this procedure. I used invisalign and i liked it alot. I just don't think my Dentist was as seasoned in invisalign as he should have been. I was in the invisaligns for about a year. I can see a big difference as far as some of the spaces I had are now closed. But my teeth have now moved inward (as most ppl teeth and mine before invisalign point directly down). It was expensive (i am cheap) it was about $2000 after the insurance paid. You have to change the trays about every 2 weeks. And at first it was painful but you get accoustomed to it after awhile. I still wear my trays for retainers because I am still getting add'l dental work done.

I had traditional braces for about 2 years, which were taken off about a year ago. Consider talking to two or three orthodontists before you chooose who you use, and which option, invisalign or braces. Consultations were free when I did them. One thing to consider is whether or not invisalign will fix the problem you have with your teeth. My orthodontist told me afterwards that he was glad I had chosen traditional braces b/c the invisalign wouldn't have been as effective. He had to "turn" or "spin" some of my teeth in place, and I'm not sure if/how invisalign could have done that. Now I have invisalign retainers that I wear at night and, knowing both options, here are my thoughts: the retainers, though clear, are not truly invisible, make me talk a little bit funny (lispy), and would definitely make me feel more self-conscious than traditional braces. Also, I am a "grazer" and eat small meals and snacks throughout the day. For me, it would have been tiresome to have had to take out the invisalign, eat, then brush my teeth every time before putting the invisalign back in. Regarding traditional braces, I paid extra to have clear ones on my top teeth, but probably would have been fine with metal ones, too. Basically, you can't hide that you're wearing braces anyway and it is so common now for adults to have them. About 80% of the people in my orthodontist's office were adults. Finally, some words of caution, after getting my braces off I had to get three cavities filled. I went to the dentist regularly while wearing braces and don't know if the cavities had anything to do with them, but if I could do it over again, I would have made sure to brush three times a day. Also, with traditional braces, it is super cumbersome to floss and I didn't do it - another regret. Hope that helps. Good luck!

I had invisalign last year. It worked well and quickly for me. I liked them as an option because I would never have considered "real braces" at my age. One warning: don't boil them to sanitize them... they melt into little plastic clumps! lol don't ask how I know... :)

Hi W.- my sister has Invisalign, and I am crazy jealous. Her entire treatment is supposed to take about 18 months, and so far she is very pleased with the rapid results.

I went and got a quote for myself a while ago. They told me then that for things like an overbite, traditional braces work better, but just for straightening the Invisalign is comparable in results. They also gave me two quotes. For some reason, the Invisalign was both cheaper and faster than the "advanced" braces the office uses. Ultimately I decided it was just too much money ($7k- yikes!) but I really want braces bad. Another point- with traditional braces you have to go to the orthodontist every month, but with Invisalign you just swap out your trays. You only have to go a few times to the ortho. Traditional braces also will cut up your mouth, where with Invisalign nobody can tell you're wearing them (you really can't, that's not just propoganda).
