Has Anyone Ever Seen Drool Drying Blueish Purple on Clothing?

My son is 21 months old. When he drools, it's clear in color as it should be but when it dries on his clothes it's blueish purple. I'm having a very hard time getting it out of his clothes. I haven't changed the laundry detergent and he doesn't take iron. Anyone know what could cause it? And how I can get the stain out of his clothes. Please help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

He had Grade 4 GERD since birth and had to sleep in a swing to keep him from aspirating until he was 1 year old. But shortly before that the doctor took him off his GERD med because my son wasn't having any symptoms. Like I said I haven't changed a single thing and he takes no meds. This started on Easter when he started cutting 5 painful teeth at once. I wonder if this is causing his GERD to act up and I just can't tell. Maybe the increase in acid is causing the discoloration?? Or does that sound crazy? Lol

Nope.
Never had that problem.
Try keeping a bib on him to absorb the drool/slobber before it hits his clothes.
Or dress him in tie dye shirts so the stains aren't so noticeable.
Could be your water or your detergent/fabric softener or any vitamins you child is taking.
Sometimes kids clothes get stained and you never figure out why.

Is he taking any medication, like for reflux or gas or colic (either prescription or over-the-counter or natural homeopathic stuff)?

Does he take any vitamins? Is it possible that you're giving him a children's vitamin but he's not completely swallowing it (keeping it in his cheek, for example)?

Not sure of the purple, but soak the stain on your favorite stain remover - read the back and make sure it says it's for protein stains (both Spray n Wash or Shout work for me), let sit 24 hours for the detergent to break down the proteins, then wash.

It's the soak time that is essential. The detergent needs time to work before it gets diluted in the washer.

Has he eaten any of those Puff type (can't think of name) snacks? I've heard people say their kid's drool would turn blue after those. Have no idea what is in them.

The only other thing I can thing that sounds familiar is I've heard of pillows turning blue/purpleish after drool. From iodine in the spit?

I would ask your pediatrician for sure next time you are in.

I use Stain Away in gel form here (green bottle). And I use the clear clothing detergents. I was getting blue stains on my clothes from my old detergent - would just appear after the wash, even though I wasn't mixing clothes. So maybe try that just in case it is your detergent.

Good luck :) hope you get it figured out

ETA: Two other things I thought of - his toothpaste (maybe change that to see if it improves) and if he takes a multivitamin (or liquid one?).
