Gift for Teacher? - Mount Bethel,PA

My son will be "graduating" from nursery school and moving to pre-K. I don't ever recall buying my teachers presents at the end of the year. Is that something that moms do now? We did get them both a gift for Christmas. I would rather have my son make something for them if a gift is expected. Let me know what other moms are doing now! Thanks!

What can I do next?

I'm a teacher, and I do get gifts at the end of the year. It is never expected, just an added bonus for a teacher. Whatever you do will be appreciated, but I have to admit, after a long, difficult year, it's really lifts me up to know a parent appreciated the work I did with a child.

Yep-in my experience the end of year gift is as big as the Christmas one. We do a class gift in my son's classes and then most parents send in a gift just from the kids.

I don't ever remember that growing up either. Only Christmas.

I have noticed that it is a common practice at the preschool level. I have now had two kids go through preschool and each time the parent's got together to buy the teacher a gift at the end of the year as a thank you. However, I have not had this happen in any other grade level and my oldest just finished 4th grade.

I went to school in the sixties and seventies and it was very common to give a year-end gift to the teachers. It was usually some home-made cookies or a potted plant. Gift cards are an excellent option these days. My kids would sometimes make a card and insert a photo of themselves and tell the teacher what they liked about him/her and what they had learned in that class that had made a lasting impression on them.

I gathered monies from some of the parents and got the preschool teacher a gift card to Target along with a small plant.

We always did a class gift at the end of the year- one mom would send a letter home and everyone contributed what they were comfortable giving and then usually a gift card or something for the class were purchased.

If you would like to have your son make something, please make it something small and useful! I would suggest having your son make magnets or something else that the teacher will use year-after-year and remember your son!
