I have a son that is now 4 1/2 months old and he should already be rolling over or at least trying but he isnt. I try laying him down for some tummy time on his little gym playmat but he hates it after literally 2minutes.. Can anybody offer any help on how i could get him to enjoy tummy time or at least a way to show him how to start rolling over?

What can I do next?

Don't worry - my baby hated tummy time, and didn't roll over until after 6 months. My doctor said it was nothing to be concerned about - some babies don't do it until after 7 months. But try to give at least 5 minutes of tummy time a day - you can try to make it fun for your baby by giving him mirrors and fun textures to play with. But really - don't sweat it. My Baby hit all her other milestones like crawling and walking right on time. All babies develop at their own pace.

It might take some time for him to realize that he can roll on his tummy. Have you tried to put a toy beside him to see how he does?

I guess every baby is different. My baby just turned 5 months and is rolling over like crazy, but she started off slow. She began rolling to one side at about 4 months, but it was not quite a full turn. I thought she was going to develop this slower than other babies, but like 2 weeks later she was turing on to her stomach. Though she continues turns onto her stomach, she hates being that way, so every time she does I have to put her back on her back. Just keep trying, but if he really hates it try not to push him into it because he will soon be turning on his own if he likes it or not. Once he starts to turn over, you will find him in the wierdest positions, especially at night. My baby girl sometimes doea a full 360 degree turn in her crib at night and sometimes wakes up crying b/c she's unconfortable! Good luck and keep us posted!

You do not have to show him or teach him to do those things. A baby will learn and do when they are ready. I used to lay my son down on a big comforter on the floor and put a lot of toys around him. He learned to do everything on his own.

i was worried about my son also. he hated tummy time. just keep doing it & eventually he'll enjoy it...especially when he realizes he can see everything. my ds is now 8 months & moving all over the place. i realize now he just needed time to get used to the new position.
