Our heater in the house is broken and we just haven't been able to afford to get it fixed. So we have been relying on the gas heaters in our restrooms to warm up. But the house now looks horrible. The walls in the restroom looked burned and the tile above the gas heaters look so burned, they are black. Even the walls in our hallway leading to the restroom look dingy. Has anyone had to deal with this? My husband tried cleaning the tile, but it just spreads the blackness around. I just don't know where or how to start. Are we going to have to re-paint the house? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
i agree with the other post i don't think is a good idea having in the bathroom , gas heaters produce carbon monoxide which is a poisonous gas. if these are used in a confined space with zero ventilation, it is not a good idea.
Call someone that cleans heaters & get it cleaned. It could be that the piece that lets the gas in from outside (the line) is letting to much gas in. Soap & water will get the walls clean. If it's white walls use a little bleach. If you don't like bleach use any other cleaner that whitens, maybe even a bleach alternitive. I have had this happen to me. Turn the heater down some, the higher it is the more blackness it puts out. GL
I'm not sure what kind of gas heater you are using, but is it vented properly? You could have a very serious CO2 situation if you are not careful. I think there are some electric heaters which might be safer and will not deposit soot on surfaces.
Sorry to hear you're having problems. You should have some one come from the gas or porpane company to check out the heaters. The may have the wrong orifice or jet in them for the type of gas you're using. That will make them smoke. Cleaning the unit will help but from years of experience I know they need to be changed or adjusted to burn properly. As far as cleaning your walls & tiles, you just have to keep washing till they finally come clean 7 yes bleach water will help. Good luck.
