Fussy

Lately my 4 month old seems to be fussy. She sleeps 10 hours at night. During the day she takes her bottles and then doesn't seem happy. She has a hard time burping. I have tried the over the counter medication for gas, but that really doesn't seem to help. She has a twin sister who is very content.

What can I do next?

My son was the same way at times. I found that laying a pillow across my lap and laying him down on his tummy really helped. I rubbed his back and just let him relax right after his bottle. Many of the times he was able to get a burp out. Good luck!

Babies magic tea will soothe your child, I assure you. It was a great help to me a few months ago when my son was behaving the same as your baby.

Hi S.,

My 15 week old was very fussy, starting at about 5 or 6 weeks. I took her in to the pediatrician and he suggested the gas drops. Like with you, they didn't work well. She was still miserable. He said that she must be cramping from the gas so he gave me a prescription for some other drops to help with cramping and they did the trick. She's still gassy sometimes, but she doesn't scream anymore.

Do you think she has reflux? If things are coming back up, she could be in a lot of pain from that as well.

it is probably a stage.. it will likely go away- my daughter was an unhappy baby until she was abut 6 month old.

Then she started scooting around eating solid food and was a happier girl.

Just a stage. My daughter was the same way while her twin brother was the happy content one. Now at 9 months...the rolls have reversed! She is such a happy little one and he is super needy and fussy.
Congrats on being a twin mommy! It's a blast:)

Hi S.,

Are you breast feeding or using formula? The reason I ask is because both of my kids had difficulty processing the iron in the powdered formula which my pediatrician said is quite common. As a result, we had to use the concentrated (more expensive!) formula.

My son was particularly fussy and difficult to burp. Have you tried infant massage? This technique is said to help with digestion:

1) Lay your baby on his back.
2) Starting in the middle of his chest with both hands move up and around his chest and then down towards his stomach making the shape of a heart (wish I could draw a picture to demonstrate). 3) Use gentle strokes and repeat several times.

Good luck to you :)
