Full Time Working Moms?

I'm feeling a little like I'm on an island, surrounded by a sea of full-time stay-at-home moms... are there any full time working moms out there AND do you possibly have any interest in finding time (I know, I know... what's that! haha) to meet with other full time working moms? Once a month maybe, after the kiddos are down to bed? Dessert somewhere or just coffee at Parkside Coffee Shop (Lenexa)?

What can I do next?

T. and others!

I am in a group called Mothers & More. We have several Full-Time working moms in our group. We are not a FT working mom's ONLY group, but we have several that work full-time, part-time, volunteers, SAHM, etc. Most of our events are evening events that start around 7:30pm (you could show up later if you want). Check out our website, and see what we have going on. You can always come, check it out, and see what you think. There is no obligation to join if you don't want to, but it was a life savor for me, and I know many others.

I hope this helps! M.

T.,

Good for you for trying to start a group like this! My kids are older, (17 and 13) but I worked full time until about 6-7 years ago. IN MY OPINION, as long as you have a great center or sitter, kids really don't care until they hit school age. Once my 17 year old hit school it was, "why can't you go on the field trip?" Why can't you come help at the party?" So many of my friends went back to work when their kids were off to school, and at least for my family, that is when I decided I can and will stay home. Especially once they hit adolesence, that time right after school is so valuable. I know what kids drink, do drugs, which girls "put out" and what parents support unsupervised parties.

I can't really help you now at this point, except to say you are a fabulous woman for trying to connect. I wish something like your group was around when my kids were little. I felt so out of place because all the neighborhood moms stayed home and I was the only one who worked.

In good health,

Lori K.

I am a full time working mom of a 3 year old, 21 month old, and a 7 month old. So you aren't alone. Though there does seem to be more stay at home moms than working moms on the board. Of course if your working it is hard to get on the board. I get on here while I am pumping at work.

Not sure if I could fit in one night a month or not. I have been trying to make to my pre-school moms group at church and it seems like something always comes up.

Hi T.! A few months ago a couple of us full time moms tried to do a little playgroup. There were a few of us who work full time from home so we had a bit more flexibility. Everyone got busy and we really only managed one or two times to get together. My guess is that you're going to find an online community rather than a "real life" group. When you work full time (outside the home especially) you just don't have the same kind of flexibility to be away work or from home. Maybe you could organize something at your work even? A monthly luncheon with other moms in your office? Or even moms on here who work? Good luck! If you ever just want to vent or commisserate, don't hesitate to contact me directly!
