Hi all. I'm curious about your experiences or opinions on the many universities or sites that offer free college courses online for the sake of solely personal enrichment/education and not for credit. I cannot afford to go to college however I am interested in possibly taking an online course. Now for the required question, do you think this is something worth doing or is it a waste of time?

BYU has free college courses not for credit. They offer levels in middle school, high school, college, and free enrichment. Some are pretty interesting like personal finance, gardening, strengthening families, religious studies, self reliance, others are like basic math and such that is good for helping people who haven't gone to school in a long time, get prepared for going back.
They also have some more courses that are pretty low cost. I think education, even if it is just for personal enrichment is wonderful and definitely not a waste of time!

I am definitely considering doing something on this site in the winter. Learning something new is not a waste IMO.
Any kind of learning is worthwhile....... besides, it helps keep your mind sharp! Eventually, if you really want to pursue a college education, it will help since you've gotten in the habit of studying.

Love it! I use Itunes U. Only problem - one class eats up ALL the memory on my Iphone. So....it's just a matter of time before I get to listen to "Introduction to String Theory" on my morning walk.....

Go to App store.
Download I Tunes U (it's free)
Then browse and download classes (they're free)
It is always worth it to learn something new and get new experiences. Another place to check out is kunes academy. It is a website put together by a guy so other people that could not go to college could still learn. I cannot remember if it is .org or .com
Don't get too hooked on the "college" part of online education. If you look into the Khan Academy website, there is all kinds of subjects to learn about. All presented in an easy to grasp videos. I also second the vote for iTunes U. I watched some great videos on Nutrition through it.
