Follow up - Job Help (Being Set up for Firing)

I want to thank you all that responded to my earlier posts about my current work situation and whether my company is setting me up to be fired.

I started applying for jobs shortly after I posted the question and already have an interview scheduled for this upcoming Wednesday! Granted - it's not my "dream" job (I really want to stay virtual) but just the fact that I've received some interest really brightens my spirits and decreases my anxiety about my job search.

So - another thanks - and I guess I need a question - do you have any success stories about jobs or personal situations that seemed to be moving in teh wrong direction but ended up being the best change you could have hoped for?

What can I do next?

There is a bible college that posts live streaming online. They had a speaker that is a very wealthy and respected business man. He was giving a testimony about a boss that hated him. I probably can not tell it as well as him. But I will try.

He said that the man made derogatory remarks about his faith all the time. He would send him all over the country on last minute trips and keep him away from his family. He would call him into a meeting at work on Sunday morning and then not show up. He did these things simply to give him trouble. He made the man as miserable as he possibly could and even asked him if he would quit.

So one day he was sitting in a hallway staircase at work and started praying that he couldn't take it anymore. He said that he heard clearly in his spirit that God told him that he would take care of him if he left. But that God wanted him to stay and make that boss of his a success.

So he decided to stay. What he did was heaped kindness on the boss at every turn. He would call him about all kinds of things just to let his boss know what he was doing and even invited him to some of his out of town meetings. He made his boss feel good and that he respected him. He said the boss kept doing things to get his goat. But that over time it became a running joke between them. His bosses company became wildly successful and God started opening doors for this man to leave and start his own business. Today these gentleman are very good friends. I don't remember if the boss ever became a nice person or became saved. But God would not show that much interest unless he was pursuing him :)

I had been working for a company for 3.5 years when they started having random and mass layoffs. My coworker was let go and I wasn't even aloud to talk to her before she was walked out. Every week more people were being walked out, and the morale just continued to spiral downwards. I was working 12hr each day and most weekends from home with no sight of any raise or even acknowledgement of my hard work. I had just transferred from one department to a newly developed department and was especially afraid that they would decide to get rid of us since we hadn't yet established our value and responsibilities.

So, I started looking elsewhere just to be safe. Next thing I knew, I had an interview and then an offer at another company with a shorter commute. I accepted the offer, but was terrified that I was making the wrong decision. We were just closing on our house and the new position I was taking was also in a newly established group. I was getting daily warnings from friends and coworkers that I was going to another unstable environment where I could lose my job just as quickly as if I stayed put.

Within 4 months of taking the new job, we found out that I was pregnant! With a new house and baby on the way on top of the new job, I was even more terrified that I had made the wrong decision.

A year later, I couldn't be happier. It was the best decision I made. I work for a wonderful company that truly values its employees. My boss is amazing and I love what I do. Not to mention that I went from a 2hr commute each day to and from work to less than 15min total each day. I was really blessed with this opportunity and I'm glad that I took the risk! It was the best move I made.

In a way I have.
I was the only PT employee in my department when the layoffs began. I was the logical choice, as my boss needed to keep all of the man hours that she could in her department.
I was "unemployed" for about O. week. I was offered a job by a company that had been a vendor within the week. Part time hours. Perfect. NOT a "dream job" but it was what I needed when I needed it. About a year later, I was contacted by my former boss and asked to come back. The budget had been restored to the point where it was possible. I returned to my original job in a PT capacity (as I had worked in the past) and my original salary was reinstated.
So.....I guess my outlook on the situation is that a change/layoff/etc. CAN be for the best and turn out OK!
All the best in your interview!

My first job out of college was a nightmare. My boss called me "Little One" (I'm not kidding) and was horrible to me. I used to get off the train on the way to work to throw up every Monday, I dreaded going to work so much. After two years (this was during a recession in the early 90s, so I had to stick it out), I finally quit and moved back home with my parents. I thought that was a low point in life.

Well, that lousy job allowed me to get my next job. The next job wasn't a whole lot better, but it allowed me to make valuable connections, including the woman who'd become my next boss at a major corporation. I ended up taking a huge step up there, moving into management. It ultimately allowed me to become a freelancer years later, working exclusively for that corporation. I've been associated with that corporation for 15 years now. It all wouldn't have happened without that lousy first job.

a few months ago the my Aunt decided to sell the home we were renting from them for 6 years with no warning. They had a buyer lined up and ready to go and we needed to get the heck out. I was livid. she honestly would treat strangers better than that. Well everything comparable to rent was way out of our price range and smaller stuff was still really high for what it was. We asked my husband's parents for some help with a down payment and we moved in with my parents for a few months to look for a house. I hated movingin with my parents. Everyone wanted to pry into my financial situation. "oh did one of you lose your job." it really sucked because my mom, her sister (that aunt that kicked us out), and us all lived in the same area and many of the people being nosey knew all of us. No we were fine financially. But my supposed family and your buddy here sold our house without warning. Great person you are friends with. We did end up finding a house and buying it and moved in about a month ago. My husband and I had pretty much resigned ourselves to the fact that we would probably never be able to buy something in California ever and it did end up working out. I was confident that there would be a happy ending but there were some definite low points. Once we found our yellow brick road there were bumps and problems. But we did get our happy ending (or it might even be a happy beginning) =0)

OH I know its hard. I hate my job at times due to some of the people who I have to deal with. But being where we are its important to stick with it for my daughter. Its hard to believe but sometimes we do not see the open window for the closed doors in front of us.
