I am pregnant with my first and recently moved to Franklin. I am looking for a good pediatrician. I have heard that many moms prefer the sensitivity of female peds, anyone agree? Can anyone recommend a good pediatrician in the area. As this is my first, it is especially a big deal for me to find someone great! Thanks!

I love, love, love Dr. Gabriela Morel at Southern Pediatrics. She has been our doctor since my children were born. My son is 10, my daughter 8. We have followed her to her new location on Cool Springs Blvd. My children have always felt comfortable with her, infact, when they were little they would try to find reasons just to go see her. As a parent, I not only trust her medically, but I feel like I can ask her anything and know she will answer my questions, no matter how trivial. She always makes us feel like we matter. I would absolutely recommend our pediatrician. She is even on facebook now...www.facebook.com/southernpediatrics

We use Pediatric Associates of Franklin. They have both male and female peds on staff. They are on Bakers Bride Ave. Our Doc is Phyllis Townsend. I have never had a problem getting an appointment or if I have a question talking to one of the nurses, They also have after hours care available.

I LOVE Dr Molly Hood at Pediatric Associates - she is wonderful with all my kids and when I had a baby last fall she did the hospital visit early in the day so I could get out of the hospital quickly.

Dr. Eddie Hamilton ~ ###-###-#### (Brentwood) or Dr. Elizabeth Dykstra ###-###-#### (Cools Spring area). My sons (9yrs & 7mos) have been patients of both. I love them both!

God Bless!

I love Dr. Bennie at Harpeth Pediatrics (right off exit McEwen from I65). Not a long wait time, always answer when I call in with questions which I love since mine is my first too, and I never feel rushed. I can tell she honestly loves kids. She has never made me feel dumb even though I'm sure some questions were, and she seemed to back up my decisions on things. Oh, and the office staff is great, which is a big deal- who cares if you love the doctor if you can never get in to see them or get angry before you ever make it that far.

I have also seen Dr. Huss when my son was sick and I love him too. He did the circumcision in the hospital for us, which was important to me. You don't mention if you're having a boy or girl, but for circ. as long as your insurance allows it, it is best to do it in the hospital, and I really wanted a ped to do it, not my OB or whoever was on call. Not many peds will do the circ. He did a fantastic job too.

As far as the female vs male, I don't know. I would be happy with either of those docs and can't really say I'd prefer one over the other just because of their gender.

You can do an interview visit before the baby comes with them. Just call to set it up. I didn't end up doing it b/c mine came early, so Dr. Bennie just came to the hospital and I really liked her.

Brentwood Children's Clinic in Cool Springs is wonderful. My primary there is Dr. Moss, but all the peds are great. If mine is not available I'm always willing to see someone else. I love, love, love them and the triage nurse who answers phone questions is great as well.

Pediatric Associates of Franklin in the Cool Springs area. There are two great female MDs there - Dr. Townsend and Dr Couden. I would highly recommend either of these women. :)
