Hi everyone,

My son has his first loose tooth. We are very excited for him, except he turns 5 Christmas day. Is this too early? I want to make sure he is not having any dental problems.

Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

No worries! My sons both started loosing teeth at early 4yrs old. Dentist says if they get teeth early they will lose them early. Also he said it often follows a heredity pattern. Makes sense I lost 4 teeth before I was 4!

My oldest daughter not only had loose teeth late (1st grade!) she had to have them pulled! The roots were too long.
I do recommend a "intro" to the dentist though at this age. Even if it is just a "visit to the office" to see all the cool stuff!

This is common.
When my daughter was 5 and in Kindergarten... MANY kids were losing their 1st tooth. Our Ped. Dentist was not alarmed.

I remember loosing my first tooth when I was 5. I think that's a pretty common age to start loosing teeth

My son didn't lose any of his teeth until he was 5, and he was the oldest kid to start losing them in his school.

We started taking him to the dentist, though, at 1. You are doing biannual trips to the dentist, yes?

I teach pre-k and have seen several 4 year olds loose teeth. come to think of it, my cousin also lost her first tooth at 4 1/2. Don't worry about it unless it became loose due to a fall.

It's not too early to lose teeth. Congrats to your son!

Teething is like growing hair, all kids do it differently. This also goes for losing teeth. My daughter had friends that lost four teeth by the age of 5, her teeth did not loosen up until she was 6. The bottom front ones are usually the first to go. If you are worried about him, see a dentist!

He's exactly on time. Some even lose the first one at 4, but mostly at 5 or 6.
